Oil filler cap gasket. Part # 9043037140. The old one felt like plastic rather than rubber. I drilled 3 holes in the old gasket then picked it out with a pick while only managing to stab myself once. Supposedly, replacing the oil filler cap gasket can help prevent P0440 codes, which I see on a sporadic basis.

I was expecting to complete my rear differential oil change as well but my filler plug is on tight. 21" breaker bar couldn't budge it. Going to Kroil it some more and try again tomorrow. Maybe pound on the breaker bar with a mallet. Worst case, I'll break out the torch. I don't think there's anything back there to catch on fire. :flame:

I pulled the rear axle assembly so I can weld a replacement back cover on it to repair an oil leak. Rust sucks. Was surprised that the bolts that hold the suspension links came out so easily. I expected them to be rusted solid like the leaf spring eye bolts on my 1st gen 4runners. In fact I only broke one bolt on the whole job so far, a small one that secured a brake line bracket.

Need to install some shocks, springs, brake lines and sway bar links while I’ve got it all apart. Maybe suspension links too. Definitely going to clean up the axle housing and paint it.

Love that color! Cool steel metallic right?

Bumped up to the third perch on the Bilsteins. Front end was a bit squishy and saggy after I bolted up my AOR plate bumper….

What kind of 5100s - Taco, Tundra, 4runner? I'm running Tundras and initially just went with a 1/4in top plate spacer for the same problem, just didn't feel like taking down the struts again, but now I'm thinking of bumping up a perch anyways
That 70lb skid plate probably wasn't helping!

They are Tundra 5100’s with the Tundra TRD coils that came with my SS 1.2 kit. I rode them on the 2nd perch with a stock front and they were stiff.. My 1/4” 4Xinnovations front skid helped out a bit, but the AOR plate bumper made it feel like driving a houseboat. The third perch brought the ride back to normal, and leveled it out nicely. Tearing apart the coils to adjust them made me question my decision not to go with the Radflo coilovers when I ordered my lift.

Fwiw over the past hour or so I've been looking into replacing my TRD coils for Toytec/Eibachs, from what I've read supposedly they ride and flex much much better since they give you 3" on the lowest perch (and much cheaper if I recall, I remember my TRD coils costing like $200 something). Just some food for thought! :fishing:

I went back and forth between Sonoran Steel and the Toytec/ Eibach kit for a month before I ordered the SS 1.2 kit. From what I remember reading the Eibach coils didn’t do as well with a heavy front end. Now that I’m on the third perch I don’t think I’ll need to tear them apart again, we'll see if adding a winch changes my mind… If I ever swap out my front setup it will be for adjustable coilovers, most likely Radflo. My rig rides really nice right now on the road, I need to go play in the rocks a bit and see how she does.

Got a couple more door stopper holder-open-thingy repair kits from Mother Russia so I can put together some more sets in the future. Testing out the core-return model with forum members right now.

Savage skids.

I finally sanded and painted my Savage skids. Should have done this a long time ago but was too excited to put them on.
Oh well, a little extra work no big deal.

1. I always wanted some Savage armor - too late.

2. I didn't realize they didn't include an oil drain access hole - helps dull my pain a tiny bit.

3. Your stock gas tank skid looks like it puts in work!

Radiator fan slung a blade - watch out!

Well, I found out plastic radiator fans don't last forever. Funny thing is I removed it 4000 miles ago when doing Timing Belt job.
inspected and didn't see any cracks. I knew I should've changed it.......Good thing to do when you change your radiator.
At least the only thing the thrown blade got was the lower radiator shroud. On the hunt for one of those. Also changed the
Throttle position sensor as it was throwing PO120 code. Drives much better now.
Next up - find that exhaust leak......it's Redneck loud!

The no drain hole is not as bad as it seems. But it would be nice.
The factory skid took some hits for sure. That will be next. well, one day.
I'm still waiting on my bumper and I have to install a laundry list of parts I have in the garage.

Painted and installed 4xi rear bumper, tire, and gas can carriers
Last week. Traveled over the sierras...backed out a third timing cover bolt from the block on the trip. Pulled the 1st timing cover found the bolt scraping the cam pulley. Removed it. Made it home. I'll pull the upper hose and timing cover tomorrow and replace the bolt that backed out of the third cover and top off coolant. Loved having spare gas, hi lift, and spare tire on the trip.

Put a headboard to a bed on my roof rack and drove across the earth to get it home. The things you’ll do for your wife…

Not today, but recently:

Was having weird transmission issue, found a thread with similar symptoms that turned out to be the blue circuit board for the instrument cluster. ~$70 and a little time later got that replaced, but haven't had a chance to put many miles to see if that fixed the problem. Problem was intermittent, and the 4Runner isn't my daily driver.

[Here was the OG thread in case it helps anyone: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/77138-transmission-issue.html]

Any pics of the new bumper? I’ve been eyeing those for a while…

I pulled the e-brake. Got instantly better brake response.

If you are wondering what I'm talking about, the rear drum brakes are self-adjusting. The e-brake aids in this adjustment. I had forgotten and haven't used mine in over year so the rears had gotten soft. Now they are much better.

Good to know. I haven't used my e-brake in over 10 years. The handle won't move. Recently ordered replacement bell crank to hopefully fix that problem, but haven't attempted the install yet.
