Installed the Lil Skip's gas tank skid.
After removing the stock skid it was apparent I had a few modest dents in the bottom of the tank, probably down a cup or two of gas capacity, but since it'snot causing any issues with the gauge or pump, I just left it alone.
TRIGGER WARNING: I live in the salt belt, this gets driven in the winter, the salt has taken its toll on the underside of my 4Runner. Dry state residents may want to avert their eyes!
I have some bolt on sliders, so I had to notch out a bit of the skid where it bolts to the outer frame rail:
I've certainly had plenty of issues with the driveshaft rubbing the stock skid. Get in a good flex and POP POP POP POP!!!! as the driveshaft balancing weight catches on the sheetmetal. A horrible sound, I really thought something was HORRIBLY WRONG the first time I heard it. After a while, just learned to grit my teeth and ignore it. And bash it back in with a hammer later on.
This looks like it has better clearance - it's very snugly up against the gas tank. Of course, if the driveshaft does reach over, this sturdy skid will probably pop the driveshaft balance weight off, it's not flimsy sheetmetal.
I have the axle centered in the body at normal ride height, but I sometimes wonder if I should adjust it to scoot it over to the passenger side a bit more. Maybe 1/4 inch or so?
