These are your friend... I could almost count the number of times I've hand soldered a connection over the last decade since discovering them

Yup I know those exist. I'm still happy I did the actual solder job, especially since I was able to put some dielectric grease in there before heat shrinking them.

Also did two more things today. First off repositioned those lights to where they are throwing to the side. Went tooling around on a dirt road tonight and wasn't sure about where I put them at first until I got to a really windy switchback and realized they were great with giving me the ability to see around corners, also potentially I will see deer a little easier with the way they are.

Also replaced my windshield sprayers with Honda Odessey ones, a little pricey but man they work nice. Hopefully a big boon when it comes time to drive up to the resorts here soon.

Just finished putting in whiteline bushings after following tims video, was a pretty hard job considering that the truck has spent most of its life in utah salt... had to get a press shop to get the old sleeves out. No more bad lurching or jumping when shifting from P to D/R, shifts feel a little better but this could be from new grease I pushed into drive shaft.

Swapped the 02 engine into the 97 today. The exhaust manifolds are different, but the 02 mounts still lined up and fit. I was worried because Toyota has different part numbers for the 97 and 02. So looks like what I’ll need to keep from the 97 is the exhaust manifolds, injectors and intake manifold

I was also hoping to swap the Bilsteins over to the 4wd 97 from the 2wd 02 but they are different sizes. Guess they’ll just have to go to the junkyard along with the rest of it. Sucks cause the 02 has new tires too. I’m also considering swapping the seats over from the 02, but the 97 is oak leather interior and the 02 is grey cloth. The cloth are in much better shape but I’m afraid the mismatch interior will be too much of an eyesore, plus I’ll lose the power seat. Idk what to do lol.

Might also check the rear ends to see if they are interchangeable, the 97 has leaking axle seals and the 02 is still good, I figure it would be easier to swap the rear ends than to do an axle seal job.

I would not put suspension meant for a 2WD on a 4Wad vehicle, but there's no reason the wheels and tires can't swap.

You can move the seat back and base to the power bases, you can also recover them; several here have used wet okle covers. I, too, prefer cloth, but cover my tab seats with covers to keep them clean when wrenching or wheeling.

I'm surprised to hear you need to swap injectors and intake manifold, exhaust manifolds make sense, but why not swap the collectors down to the cats, too? Freshen it all up.

The 2002 has a different brake line configuration. 02 has 2 separate brake lines from the master all the way to each rear side. 97 will have one brake hose that splits into two at the axle.

02 and 97 both have different axle shafts that use different wheel bearings. You can use either axle shaft in either axle housing, but if you need to replace the wheel bearings you will need the wheel bearings for the correct year.

The drum brakes are also different between the two years. I think the difference is only in the shoes/hardware orientation, but I'm not sure exactly.

For clarification 01-02 are the same axle/brake configuration and 96-00 are the same axle/brake configuration.

If I can keep the power bases, I think I will swap the seats out. Maybe I can use some fabric dye/paint?

As for the exhaust, the cats on the 02 were fried and when I tried to swap them out I made a huge mess and had to cobble it back together and just lived with a horrible exhaust leak. That was back when I still a rookie at wrenching. The exhaust on the 97 is older but in better shape. For the injectors, the connectors are different and for the intake its the throttle body that seems to have a different throttle cable configuration.

Thanks for that heads up, guess I'll just reseal the axles on the 97. It Looks like I won't be able to use as much off the 02 as I thought.

Well I didn’t do anything to my 4th gen but I picked up a sweet deal. Well at least I think so. I picked up a ‘99 4Runner 4x4 in black with 200k with some minor mods; aftermarket roof rack, a-pillar lights, brand new tires, aftermarket front bumper, upgraded head unit, and grill lights. I’ve always wanted a third gen and I thought this was a great opportunity for me. The interior is 9/10, paint is 8/10. Stock suspension so I thought that gave me a clean slate to work with. So, now I’m looking for lift kits! If anyone has any suggestions please share!

Daily duty’s are revealing more things I need to do. Fell victim to the awd flashing yesterday. My rear hatch struts don’t work when it’s cold and the rear wiper fluid squirter doesn’t work.

AWD flashy could be as simple as spraying some contact cleaner on some sensors are as complicated as replacing the ADD and/or transfer case actuator. Best of luck. My rear hatch struts also suck in the cold. Also need to get the c clip for one side where there's the pin that holds it to the body mount.

0 experience with bodywork.... I might be interested in seeing what's going on with it at some point. Looks like I've got my own troubles though, just confirmed I have a rear axle seal leak >< I've got to track down someone with a press and the fancy tool for taking off the ABS tone ring...
