Not much of a "what did I do to my 3rd gen today" as is just a little update on things. But I'm fast approaching 340K in mine and the thing still just goes. Every single time I hop in it. I'm so fortunate to have a truck that has treated me this well for almost 12 years. It's kinda wicked to think. Been almost 100K since my last timing belt & water pump change. I've been using non-ethanol gas for the past couple of fill ups. Aside from that the truck is doing well. Briefly contemplated the idea of trading it + another vehicle I own (2007 Accord) to see if that could yield me some decent numbers towards a newer vehicle, but then I realized that would be crazy to do. I've had the truck since college. No way I can get rid of the thing.

Replaced a missing cushion on my console lid, no more rattling. For the $1 cost, this is a high "satisfaction to cost" ratio!

Don't ask about how I initially dropped the cushion onto asphalt, and spent 10 minutes looking for it with my wife's help, to no avail. After writing it off as a loss, and installing an extra one I had, I walked past the truck and found the "lost" cushion. So I used it to replace the original (old) cushion. Now I have two new cushions, life is good.

I went to work yesterday and subjected my 1998 4Runner to the daily pounding on the BW parkway, Interstate 495, and across two sets of railroad tracks to work. One tough little vehicle.

My son and some of his family came up for a week and I lent them my 4runner to use.
sure enjoy driving the 4runner again

Replaced the grill clips as all but 2 were broken and barely holding it in.

Still haven't found my metallic rattling culprit so the hunt continues on that.

There was a ghost in my turn signal/ headlight stalk that would randomly vaguely turn on my brights indicator in the cluster while shutting off my headlights. A wiggle of the stalk would make everything normal again.

Pulled a lower mileage stalk out of a junkyard 97 for my 96. Wiring matched up and the new one works great. 3 screws and 4 catches on the column surround, 2 screws and unplug connector for the stalk.

Diff drained and refilled. Been a while since I had a RWD, so I'm not sure how old that gear oil was, but I'd guess old enough and not too crazy old. Think strong coffee: definitely dark, but I could see light through even the thickest part of the stream.

A far cry from the clumpy black paint I've drained out of a manual transmission, refilled it and gone another 100k until the car got totaled. (Though a Nissan I drained had bearings and chunks of bearing races come out - I was pleasantly surprised to get another 1k out of that one before the remaining forward gears vanished and I had to back it a quarter mile home. The real disappointment was, after a couple weeks of searching for a transmission, I donated it to Cars for Kids, and a week later ran across a "ran great before I rolled it" of the exact same pickup for $300.)

Also filled up this evening, and despite a pretty even mix of highway and in-town, it was at 17.9MPG.

I finally finished my custom grill and bumper I’ve been working on for quite some time now. Now it’s time to pull it off and shoot it with automotive paint and wire up the rest of the lights.

How long did your previous Denso unit last for?

I dropped one in mine about 10k miles ago and it's performing fine so far but it's always good to know how long to expect it can last for until it meets its demise.
