No idea about anything related to this collision, but I can speak from experience with my first 3rd gen when I was involved in an accident with it. It totaled the truck, airbags deployed, windshield cracked and everything... I walked away with hurt feelings and nothing else at only 18 years old when it happened. These trucks will save your life and I'm so thankful my first 4Runner did that for me.
It was a car chase, a guy stole the truck, the 4runner was 1 of many vehicles smashed by him as he was trying to out run th police. Noticed the 4runner when watching the new clip and felt it fit here. Sure one could find the chase online, the truck ended up spinning the 4runner sideways and smashed up the passenger side front of said.

Yep a bunch of the commenters on YT or IG where I saw the full clip picked up on the 4Runner and issued various 'RIP to a Real One' & 'Gone Too Soons'.... scumbag truck thief.

What I did today with my 3rd Gen
Had some time to put new o2 sensors both up and downstream. Check engine is still on.
I have to add new inner cv boot on the front but don't know which is good to buy

I installed a pair of Toytec 9602RC-P springs today. I had LC80 7.5 wraps w/ LC80 Black Tokico shocks. I had identical 7.5 wrap double purple/blue/white springs. With the LC80 springs, I needed to carry 100+ lbs. of sand situated back by the hatch in addition to my hi-lift, a subwoofer, some tools and a recovery kit just to get the ride height and ride quality to an acceptable level. I needed to use 1 stock coil isolator on the driver's side spring to even out the ride height. Without all the extra weight, the ride was jiggly and really nose down. Even with all the extra weight, the front/rear ride quality was noticeably different with the rear being worse than the front, especially at lower speeds.
The new springs ride 0.5" lower in the back, without the sand bags, than the LC80 springs did with the sand. I'm glad to not have it back there any more. I added the upper stock coil isolators to each spring during the install since they have a driver's and passenger specific spring. I have a pair of 10mm OME trim packers if I want to adjust ride height later. I have 1" of rake. I took it for a spin around the block and the F/R ride quality balance is a much better match now and basically feels the same. I'll see if the springs settle any over the next month or 2.

Last week while driving to work my engine shut off. Coasted down the freeway offramp and pulled out my little obd2 scanner, and got a P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor. After a quick look under the hood and not seeing anything obvious, I called my friend to pull me the last mile to work(a Toyota pulled by a Jeep - humiliating).
After work, I borrowed the company van to get my tools and came back, thinking maybe there was a wiring issue or the sensor went bad - and after about 3 minutes of disassembly I saw a broken timing belt. Yikes. Completely my fault for putting that off so long.
Watched Timmy's timing belt video and bought the aircabinman kit off Ebay, plus the SST for holding the harmonic balancer and the camshaft tool. Trailered my rig back home and started taking everything apart while I waited for parts to arrive. Unfortunately I think my harmonic balancer tool got stolen off my porch, but I just used the old starter bump with a breaker bar trick to great success.
Install went incredibly smooth thanks to Timmy's video. The only time I didn't follow the video was installing the timing belt - I put the tensioner pulley in after the belt and it was way easier than levering the belt into place. Without the harmonic balancer SST, I had to rig up a sketchy solution with my camshaft tool but had no problems getting the crankshaft pulley bolt tightened.
Really can't thank Timmy the Toolman enough. I've been watching his videos since I bought my 4runner and they saved me a lot of time and headache on this repair. Our taxes should go to him lol

I installed a JBA Performance cat-back exhaust system today. Bought it from URD. I had to get the gasket for the catalytic/exhaust interface from O'Reilly's, but the install went smoothly. Really good tone when the engine is loaded up, but no drone and it's practically silent at cruise on the highway. Very nice. The old system was LOUD.
Since I was on the highway, I also noticed how smoove the ride is now with the new rear springs. Also, very nice.

One thing I truly miss about my ex is that she had 11 chickens... getting home-fresh eggs versus having to buy them from the grocery store was so so so awesome. I miss it. they tasted so much better than the store bought ones!

Costco is running a sale right now through May 4th. Comes out to $14.99 for 5 quarts of full synthetic. not sure if anywhere else is gonna beat that. needless to say I stocked up and bought two boxes worth which will yield me right around 3 oil changes.

That is a blessing my friend. especially with the way egg prices have been, having the ability to have them fresh from the backyard can't be beat.
I tried the Kirkland oil a few years ago, but it was the regular synthetic and then I switched to the SuperTech full synthetic high mileage stuff. But since this stuff is so cheap I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it. ive also heard that their oil goes on sale twice a year or so, so perhaps ill just stock up then and yield those savings long term.

I got the Magnaflow. I like how it sounded on my other 98 4Runner. Some reviews say it has a bit of DRONE.
I don’t drive it all the time BUT I had no problem with a 70 mile commute that was about 2/3 interstate driving. Some of that was with windows down listening to it.

The 96's nearly 8 year old low beams went out within days of each other so I had to use the brights for my morning commute for a couple of days. Nobody seemed to notice. Remembering an email conversation with Daniel Stern last year I decided it was time to fix what I didn't think of as particularly broken.
It was a difficult decision to spend money on something I already have that I thought were pretty okay, but after a lot of debate...
For fun, the 96's original headlight- it's been years since these were changed for a set off a newer junkyard truck
The newer style headlights from said junkyard truck that've been on the 96 a very long time- this is the best of the two
