What did you do with your 4runner today?

Went to work and gave it a gentle stretch: crappy phone pics....

What a 4th gen dash should look like when wheeling

Lit up like a Christmas tree

That must be a cluster from 03-05? Mines different. Parking brake is with the tach, 4wd is up top in the same cluster as yours. Next down is diff lock. I think 4lo is beside the 4x4 indicator. You'd know better than me with all the led swaps you've done lol.

I have a 2005 sport edition.

I do have a vast knowledge of gauge layouts haha.

Good process of elimination though sir.

What Was I Thinking?

The steering wheel starts shaking when I'm on the brake at high speed. Of course I'm looking at the usual suspects: warped rotors and sticky calipers. So I think I'm just going to do exploratory surgery and see what I need to do in the future.

So I get off both front calipers and it turns out the driver's side outer pistons are sticking: the outer pad measures .051 and the inner measures .055. There's also a metric ton of gunk baked onto the pins. The pistons also hung noticeably when I tried to compress them with my clamp.

So rather than put everything back together just to tear it down again - I'll just get the rotors turned and pick up a reman'ed caliper. Well, this is where I forgot that I live in a small town and it's a Sunday. The local Napa doesn't have the part, nor can they turn rotors on Sundays. The Napa 20 miles away has the part, but they outsource their rotor-turning and can't do it today. The local O'Reilly can get the caliper today, but they can't turn the rotor because the back retaining plate doesn't fit inside my rotor. Brakes Plus wants $140 to turn the rotors while they're still on the vehicle - which at this point is pretty undriveable. Honestly, I should have just torn everything apart when I could get it all fixed - like on a Saturday.

TL;DR: I grabbed a beer and will get everything done at the local Napa tomorrow.

I think I'll take this opportunity to paint the calipers. Should I go with black or red? It seems a little odd to bring attention to stock calipers with red paint, but it's worth asking. Opinions welcome.

5100's aren't made to be run with lift coils at any other level than the first or 0". CrimsonCountry runs or ran 884's with 5100's at .85", I'd ask him about the ride. I would expect the ride to be much stiffer and less travel.

Good to know, thanks! I just want more of a lift than what the FJ coils are giving me

I have my 5100's on the second setting from the bottom with the 884's and the ride seems pretty good. it is alittle more stiff than the Xreas but not lot more. Iwas going to have them on the lowest setting and run the 1/4" spacer but i accidentally ordered the 1/2" spacer. since we all ready to install we just set it like that to give it a try. If it had settled nose high or the ride was too hard i would order the 1/4" spacer and reset. So far so good.....:bluejump:
