What did you do with your 4runner today?

One little stomp and he's problem free. I hate when they're in my truck.

I finally found it this morning hiding in the driver's window defrost vent. I tried to get it but it ran into the vent. Got in after work and it was on the door, between the door crease and the dash. Splat

I know asked Jake, but I figured I'd chime in. I left the bottom of the shock on the mount, unbolted the top of the shock, then unbolted the swaybar endlink.

The weight of the axle should pull the top of the shock out of the mount. That's what we had to do on A_Hul's truck because his was stuck in there.

We just cut off the top and pulled the shock off

Well that's one way to do it, damn, I was hoping to not have to bust out the angle grinder. Wrench wouldn't fit at all?

You could get it on, but barely, and my bolts were so rusted they weren't going to turn anyways

You can get a wrench in there without cutting it, I've done it several times. It's MUCH easier if you have a ratcheting wrench, but there's no way to get a regular ratchet up there without trimming some body metal out of the way.

If the shock shaft rotates you can grab it with a pair of vice grips.

I have a full set of racheting wrenches, so that's what my plan was, but I just wanted to ask if anyone had tried that. My plan is to go at it with the racheting wrenches and some visegrips to hold it if it spins.

Does the BL give enough room to use a ratchet? I've only done it on a 1/2" BL and there still wasn't enough room for a ratchet.

You shouldn't have any trouble. I'd try the vise grips (or 7 or 8mm(?)) on little nub on top before grabbing the shaft with it. If you've got ratcheting wrenches it shouldn't be a big deal though, but it might be a pita to hold a wrench on top and loosen the nut with a regular wrench.

This is true. And I'm thinking they're not going to be rusted on too bad. Cause I think the previous owner had the rear shocks replaced with some monroe reflex shocks a few years back.

I pushed out my bushings today and I'm waiting for my bushings to come in early next week. Thinking about taking a day off next week and catch up on mods.

Yep, x2 on this. I used a regular crescent wrench and a pair of pliers, no issues. Soak all your bolts in PB asap...

With the 1.25" BL, removing my 5100's and installing my fox shocks was a breeze! Look at all that space!

Lol, we cut through the shaft, twice actually, not the body! Body prolly would've been easier... but messier.
