Do you have a switch to start recording? I'm guessing it's on a loop. Is there another way to activate it? Ie: g sensor if you're in a wreck and unable to physically do it yourself.

It starts recording as soon as it has power or if you turn it on and press record if its not plugged in. You can start/stop whenever you want. There is a feature to start recording when it detects motion of you're not in the vehicle, etc., but I hide it when I leave the truck.

Flew back home to Phoenix yesterday and was greeted with an approaching dust storm. On the drive home it was raining mud and 50-60 mph winds. Today our 4runner looks like we went mudding. Pulling our pop-up to the high country for camping this weekend. Plan on getting more mud on it there so it will need a nice bath when we get back!
