Figured it was time to get the timing belt/water pump replaced after 13 years and 145k miles on the original parts.
New head unit installed. So much better![]()

Avh-x391bhs. I'm still waiting on my bypass to come in the mailwhat model and i hope you went atleast 3800bhs or 391 for this year model, also did you install parking brake bypass?
I got a hair to trim the front bumper just because (trail rash is already prevalent, and paint damage is borderline severe). The passenger side catch had about 3 lb of mud/clay/stone fragments caked in it and there's no telling how old/how long it's been there. It looks a lot better to me!
Grinding LCA bushing washers and burning rubber! Going all poly control arm bushings to tighten up some slop.![]()

Got my front CV axles done yesterday. Both were clunking when shaken by hand and had boots with zero grease in em...Took em to a friend's shop and helped him out for a discount on labor.
Unfortunately, we hit a snag almost immediately. The rear bolt on the driver's side LCA would NOT come out. The shim to the front of the bushing was seized to the metal around it. Even with a chisel and a sledge, it only ended up damaging the shim. So we stopped there. He did end up damaging the rear, threaded half of the bolt and had to cut the end off to get the nut back on so that I could drive it. So now there's no shim there -_- . Hilariously enough, my alignment feels like it improved...
So instead of dropping the control arm, we ended up just separating the upper ball joints (and managed to not rip either boot).
Truck feels MUCH smoother at all speeds (probably because my CV isn't vibrating all over the place) and doesn't get tugged around by imperfections on the interstate anymore (an unintended result of the LCA screw-up. I think I had some toe out that's now corrected). It's also nice knowing that my CVs won't explode at any moment...
That's a great idea! One day I noticed the catch on my rig was leaking water and I put my finger in the hole to clear the rock that was plugging it and a ton of water came out. What did you use to cut off the catch?
Yeah, we regretted touching the bolts...I'm ordering a new rear one at the moment. $16 for a damn bolt...Oh wellWhen I removed a CV to replaced a diff output seal, I didn't touch the LCA cam bolts, only the two underneath that attach the LCA to the spindle I think. I was able to swing the spindle out of the way enough to pull the CV out.
The friend I went to owns an actual repair business, so I deferred to his lead. He wanted to pull the LCA so that we'd avoid damaging the ball joint boots with a pickle fork.Same as ^^ said. I never touched the lower control arm other than to undo the lower ball joint.
Looks like someone should look into getting the free online service manual.
