I have a pretty worn down and almost completely deflated 285/70r17 BFG KO2 as my spare and I have the thicker towing package hitch. Having an air compressor in the back is the key to that though. That being said, I'll probably just get a used 275 70 mounted up at some point in the future that I can keep inflated...

Changed my oil using the 6-quart box o' oil I recently ran across at Walmart. I posted about it in the Maintenance/Detailing section and am copying that info over below for your convenience. Love it for the reasons I listed, and it was without a doubt the smoothest pouring container I've ever used.

Hadn't seen boxed oil before the other day. Ended up buying it for several reasons:
- Box packaging eliminates most of the plastic
- Having 6 quarts vs. 5 is more convenient given my '07 V6 takes 5.5 qts.
- Very economical at $15.47 for 6 quarts
- Comfortable with the quality (I believe that differences in various oils are so minimal as to be essentially insignificant as long as the oil meets manufacturers' specifications.)

The only thing I was curious about was how it would be to pour the oil from a box, but it worked great.
The box has a tear-out panel so you can see how much is left, useful since a 4th Gen V6 only uses 5.5 of the 6 quarts. (There's more than .5 quarts in it here, this was taken before I finished.)
Box warns not to use a sharp object to poke out any of the access panels. Hope that's obvious but never hurts to repeat stuff like that.

Finally upgraded and installed 700lb springs in my icon coilovers. One was an absolute ***** to install due to corrosion on the shock body. I had to soak it overnight, scrub all the rust off and used a big ass monkey wrench to even get the adjustment cap to spin.
I istalled an ARB bumper and a Come Up Seal winch last year and the 650lb springs that come stock with the coilovers couldn’t handle the 200+ new pounds up front. With the new springs I have more lift and the truck handles canyon roads much better.
Don’t do what I did and get the 700lb springs when you buy your coilovers if you plan on getting a bumper/winch.

There’s a lot of info available on this (for example) and Chevron does offer both full syn & dino oil in boxes. I wanted the high mileage version and the one I bought is what was in stock.
For me though, and this opinion is heresy to some, the performance and wear difference between using the cheapest oil on the shelf at your local store vs. the most expensive, or dino vs. full syn, are so small over the long term that they’re essentially insignificant when weighed against the additional upfront expense. That assumes of course that the oil is the prescribed viscosity and meets the manufacturer’s listed specs. Add the fact that the same few companies make the oil and so on.
Are certain oils better? Probably, but not to the point where there’s a clear advantage or economic incentive to buy them. The real difference is psychological - we feel better when it’s Mobil 1 under the hood instead of Supertech, and that’s what marketers bank on, but the engine doesn’t care.
Perfect example is 89 octane mid-range gas. Ever seen an owner’s manual that calls for it? No, it’s always either 87 or 93. That’s because the reason 89 exists is marketing research showing that US consumers will take the least expensive choice when presented w/ two options but the middle choice when presented with three. So everyone who buys 89 (or puts 93) in a vehicle designed for 87 is just donating money to an oil company. There are exceptions (regional variables like high altitudes) and one-offs where an owner finds the engine knocks on 87 but not on higher octane, but there’s probably something wrong with that vehicle.
And look, I don’t say any of that from a high horse b/c I have to consciously remind myself not to fall for it when buying stuff too.

Sunroof drains and more...
The last major rainstorm we had ended up soaking my passenger side floorboard. Got the water damage all taken care of shortly after, bet never actually fixed the problem.
So, I took some flexible galvanized wire, sanded the edge down smooth and used that to clear the top drains. Water immediately started going down the drain holes, but wasn't trickling out the bottom.
Thanks to this forum, I decided to look behind one of the panels where the drains exit. A laughable amount of debris had accumulated there over the last decade and a half of being parked outside. Cleaned it all out and now it's draining perfectly! I couldn't believe the amount of debris, so I'm definitely going to be finding a way to put some mesh up top so it won't collect there in the future.

Added some raptor style lights to my grille
They are for a new Tacoma. I just trimmed the sides off and mounted them in the grille with some 3M weatherstripping double sided tape.

blowing hard now!
Ever since I bought my truck, the AC has always made an obnoxious clicking/whirring noise. Dealership quoted me a bit over $600 to fix it back then. Figured I'd live with it since the air still blew cold.
Finally got annoyed with the sound enough to do some research. Low and behold it's a ten minute job. Ordered the OEM Toyota blower fan. WOW! Absolutely no noise, and my fan blows significantly harder. Guess you don't know what you're missing out on sometimes.
This is probably one of my favorite repairs I've done so far. Wish I would have done it a year ago. That sound was capable of driving me batty on long trips, thank god for subwoofers. Now I'm Gucci even at low volume =)

Got our RCI skids installed today, with a little help from my friend at Pine Hollow Service. Really nice kit, did end up swapping out 2 bolts for longer ones. Replaced the gas tank straps too since I was in there, but they really weren't bad at all.

Got incredibly lucky on Saturday. Heard a little *ping* on my way over to some mountain bike trails in a local park. Was suspicious but everything drove fine so I thought nothing of it.
As I was back out of my parking spot later my front right tire started dragging. I pumped the brakes thinking it might be a stuck caliper and put it in 4WD in case it was something screwy with the drivetrain. Move the car forward and it was fine. Reversed in 4WD and it seemed fine.
Got to the end of the park entrance and decided to jump under and take a look before I got too far.
Who can spot the missing bolt?
Was a lesson to me to always recheck bolt torque after 100 miles or so after doing work. Soooo glad it didn't turn out as bad as it could've if I'd kept driving on it.

Holy crap! That’s bad! It’s One of the main bolts holding your knuckle together!
Did you put Red Locktite on those bolts? The book says to do that.
