Last night I brought the G5 injectors to be cleaned and flow tested. Also brought along the G4 injectors. There tested them as a group and also with the G4 injectors. There was no difference in flow between the two.

After getting rid of my 07 a few years ago for an 04 Tacoma I finally got back in a 4th gen.

Replaced passenger side valve cover on my '03 V8/2UZ, it turned into a nightmare! The last securing bolt, lower rear broke on removal, tried for several hours to double nut, didn't work, finally tried vice grips on the remaining stub and broke it off. Was able to drill it out but not straight on, came from side and boogered up the hole quite a bit, but ran a tap down it several times and it held a new capscrew ... yeah! Will wait a week or so to do the driver side, I see that same capscrew is rust covered so going to give it several soakings of Liquid Wrench before I turn it.

Man that sucks! Way to stick with it and knock it out! I suggest using a 1:1 ratio of Acetone to Power Steering fluid...it will do a better job than PB Blaster...That loosens things up incredibly well and is often forgotten!

Second on ATF as bolt and nut breaker. ATF has saved me at the junkyard many times.

I’m putting off my valve cover replacement for this exact reason. YIKES.

Replaced both front calipers with warranty replacements from AutoZone. Both were sticking. Got 66K miles and 3.5 years out of the first set. They may have changed suppliers in the meantime b/c the last set were different finishes. One was silver and the other unpainted. The ones I got today are both painted dark gray. We'll see how long they last. Kudos to AutoZone, they made the swap painless.

Replaced the remaining gooey mess of the tailgate release button. I have no idea how people reckon they have done this without removing the trim as you need to remove all the old mess which was like black RTV, and get the lip of the new rubber seated all the way round. I just took the whole piece of external trim off in the end. Took 45 mins just to remove the old goo with white spirit and brake cleaner.

A straight forward job really, quite involved but easy enough save for stubborn electrical connectors.

Found two more chrome door handles from a '06 SR5 and installed them on my '03 Limited. Truck has a full set now. I wanted the chrome grill but it was gone. Rear door panel had not been off so took the opportunity to clean. There was a fair amount of beach sand dried drink spill inside.

Took my injectors to Dr. Injector for servicing. Found a great upholstery guy to fix my front drivers seat. And a bit more cleanup of the engine compartment while the motor is getting rebuilt. All in all a very productive day.

The maintenance continues….

Purchased my 4th 4Runner a few weeks ago after returning from Germany.

Before today, I’ve done the following: oil, front and rear diff drain and fill, trans drain and fill, transfer case drain and fill, spark plugs, MAF cleaned

Today’s maintenance included: inner and outer tie rod ends, sway bar end links and bushings, Bilstein 5100 @1.25 and FJ moog springs.

I’ll be knocking out the rear struts, springs, and sway bar end links/ bushing.

Time for some bourbon *

One thing I found was the easiest way to deal with the registration plate lights is just to unseat the entire bung/grommet after unplugging it from the main loom.

Today I added lighting to the racking for my tools and steps I made earlier in the week with my Dad.

There is a 12V latching switch near the 12V outlet which is where I picked up the power source from.

This weekend my 07 with 168k got a new alternator and timing belt. I'm not sure how old the belt that came off was but it looked perfect! The only info I have for it was the sticker on the engine from 2014 with 87k on it. Peace of mind anyway!
