The other day, I dropped the back window at a light and the young girl in the car behind me started going a little crazy, waving to her mom and saying something and started pointing to the window going down.
I didn't think about it much before, but a lot of the SUV's now don't really do that to they.

Was driving the back roads to fuel station today and this t4r whips out onto the road behind me. Guy follows me all the way to the fuel station, hops out and starts asking me about my rig.
He had a 99' highlander, dark green, stock other than a ugly ass brush guard. He was not what you'd call mechanically inclined (asked me where I get my work done and acted shocked when I said my garage) but it was nice to see another highlander on the road.

On the Jeep thing, isn't it sort of a colloquialism? Like Kleenex? I'm quite sure that most "non car people" call all SUV's "jeeps". Older people particularly, growing up when the Jeep was the ONLY SUV.
Honestly around these parts, it's nothing but respect and compliments...Albertans go ape **** over Toyota trucks. Even our most backwoods, buck toothed yokels know the glory of the Yota.

Someone called my truck a station wagon today... If the police ask, I was here the whole time and the chainsaw in the back of my truck was clearly planted there to frame me... :hiding:
It's the thing I miss the most since moving to a Land Cruiser.
My dog probably misses it more than me though.

1. Had a really freaky drunk guy at a gas station ask me what year mine was and then start asking me what all I had done to mod it. I thought he was gonna shoot me and steal it. Im glad he didnt. I never enjoy being shot.
2. Guy pulled up next to me in an older Nissan Pathfinder at a stop light, complimented it and then asked what year it was.
3. Girl I went to college with before graduating loved my 4runner, and always called it "cute". Really? Its cute? Really??
Other than that, several people have asked the year, and just as you all mentioned theyre always surprised when I tell them how old it is.

Every time right after I do something to it I always get the, " dude! I'm doing that to my truck, it looks sweet!" although most never actually do it especially once they realize the time I put into it.

I walked outside yesterday to head to work and there was some random guy walking around my Runner. Asked him if I could help him and he explained that he was a cable guy working at a neighbor's house and went on to tell me how much he liked my ride. He kept going on and on about how much work I have done to it. He gave me his number in case I ever decide to sell it. Fat chance, buddy.
I don't get compliments on it very often. All I have done is change the wheels and tires and painted some stuff. Random strangers who appreciate your stuff will certainly make your day better though.

1: Whenever I go muddin and get the runner covered in mud and my buddy's girlfriend sees it, she always insists on writing "SEXY BEAST" down the side of it. I guess she likes it when I get dirty. :naughty:
2: Another buddy of mine has a stock '93 Jeep Cherokee. (and he's one of those guys who gets cocky with his rigs) He thinks that his Jeep is superior to my '96 Runner off road, He has more power but I have bigger tires and slightly more ground clearance. He took his Jeep down a VERY sloppy dirt road in the spring, it was all that Jeep could do to make it up that road, in 4WD! Later that day I took my Runner down the same road and I made it the whole way in 2WD! She dug down to the axle a couple times but still kept diggin through! :flipoff:
3: It's funny when I take people off roadin who have never really done it before and they just don't expect my runner to do what it does. I'll be climbing a steep hill or crawling through a mud hole with ease and some people just can't believe what a basically stock 4Runner is capable of.
4: And yes, my 4Runner always gets called a Jeep! :wtf: This usually comes from people who are not really familiar with automobiles, they think every "suv" is a Jeep. Not knowing "Jeep" is it's own brand. Which leaves us and our 4Runners feeling insulted or degraded. Btw, I have nothing really against Jeeps, but do not call a 4Runner a Jeep.
