What maintenance and mods should be done?

I'm a new member i got my 4runner about 4 months ago and love it its a 1999 limited with 249k miles and runs like a top even though its a salvage title we paid $2000 for it done the oil and sparks plus filters but what are the best things to do and what are some easy bigginner mods for someone like me?

Change all fluids
-transmission
-axles
-transfer case
-flush power steering
-flush brakes
-flush coolant

Search "Strawberry milk shake"
-either replace the radiator or run a transmission cooler instead of going through the radiator (search "transmission cooler")
-replace lower ball joints
-timing belt and pump
-inspect belts and replace if cracked
-inspect brake lines and replace if cracked.
-grease drive shafts

Visually look for any sort of leaks.
Replace worn out hoses in the engine bay.
Inspect for rust on the rear axle and frame. Make sure there isn't too much.
Pull all the tires and pull your rear drums and see how much pad you have left. I personally would upgrade your front brakes with Tundra brakes. Search "Tundra brake upgrade".

I did all of this plus more, but I was picky about how it drove so I replaced sway bars, rack bushings, inner and outer tie rods etc.. There's tons more, but you want to get the main things taken care of.

Once you get all of that out of the way then assess how much you can afford for mods. There's all kinds of things you can do for next to nothing and then you can really mod it out with lift, lockers, tires, armor.. Though it depends on what you are using it for.

Welcome. My 97 has 255k on it and it runs like a dream as well, paid $850 for it could not believe it. These motors go forever if well cared for. Maintenance wise do a tune up, engine decarb, timing belt kit, oil change, trans flush, if 4wd serive the transfer case, front and rear diffs, flush the coolant, check the drive belts and replace if needed, check the brakes and replace if needed, check the air filter, repalce radiator hoses. Check the radiator if the plastic end tanks on the top and bottom look brownish instead of black replace it. That brown is a sign of aging and they will crack and leak sooner than later. I know thats a lot but do what you can as you can and you will have a refreshed 4runner. Also check the front upper and lower ball joints and control arm bushings as well as the rear end bushing like the panhard bars ectcand replace as needed.
As for mods it all depends on what you want and place to do with your 4runner. If you plan to wheel/off road with it then good AT tires and good shocks are a start. As for lifts again mod for the use. Street only spacers are fine, off roading a good coil spring kit is much better. A good intake upgrade and exhaust or muffler is good of any use. Just be careful on intake choice if you goinb into lots of water.
