If you are willing to wait for a super good deal, just be patient and be ready to jump on one quickly. If you aren't willing to be patient, just buy a new one.
Around here, the used 4r's don't stay on the lots for very long. Well any Toyota truck for that matter. They sold my old Tacoma in less than a week.
We just traded my wife's '06 SE 4x4 up to a '12 Limited 4x4 Blizzard Pearl a few weeks ago. I checked last week and they had already sold the '06.
I had been looking for a good deal for a long time on a clean southern rig w/ clean carfax. The good deals were selling fast but I had been watching a few lower mileage 4r's locally that were overpriced and one of them dropped the price to a great deal and I jumped on it. Around here, you have to watch out for northern cars. There is a group of guys (according to a dealer I talked to) that buys low mileage Canadian and Northern Toyota & Lexus vehicles at auction and brings them down here to GA & AL and sells them.
Paid $33,800 for our '12 Limited Blizzard Pearl 4x4 with black leather, Flip down dvd, and slide out cargo tray (not sure how I feel about the cargo tray yet...). It had 35k miles on it and was a previous lease vehicle. They traded it in at a local Ford dealer for a new ford. It was a local car from around here and had clean carfax. When they dropped the price down I immediately went to the dealer to check it out during lunch one day. Car was super clean and no signs of any accidents. Negotiated a trade on my lunch break via sending them some pics of my wife's '06 and gave them the VIN. After some back and forth we agreed on trade, I already had financing lined up but the finance manager beat my rate by .10% so I went with them. During lunch, was at the dealer for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I called my wife and told her to take her stuff out of the '06 and grab our son and meet me at the dealer at 5:00 when I left the office. We signed the papers, moved the car seat and misc stuff over to the new rig and were pulling out of the dealer just before 6:00. I was super impressed that we only spent 2:15 at the dealer.
