What'd they do wrong? Signal light wiring

I had some body work done this week. The plasticky part of the bumper was replaced plus some trim pieces. Soon after I picked up my truck the passenger front signal light died and the rear goes double speed. The driver's side started dong that today as well. Also, the clicker sound is double speed too.

My best guess is that they messed up the wiring when they put the pieces back together. When I called today the guy figured the bulbs had burned out, but I'm pretty sure something has caused that that they've screwed up. I'm taking it in Monday a.m. and I hope to be able to tell them something specific about what to look for. If they just change out the bulbs I expect the problem will come right back.

Double speed is cause by a bulb being out. It reduces the current draw and the flasher ends up running twice as fast.

You said the front turn signal is out, do the DRLs still work on both sides? They are the same bulb as the turn signal run from the same wire so if both DRLs still work, then it's not the bulb.

Thanks Grantk. I'll have to check on the DRLs. Can't do that right now but will tomorrow am. I figure it can't be coincidence that the bulbs go out and the front bumper was taken apart all at the same time which is why I'm wondering about something causing the bulbs to go out, of that's what it is. I did know that the double speed is usually caused by bulbs being out but checking the DRls is a good tip.

The driver side signal light started working again when I was out driving this a.m. I'm guessing that a connector isn't connected right possibly. The DRL is out on the passenger side but now works again on the other. Find out tomorrow when it's back in the shop. Annoying!

Sounds like a loose connector or bulb problem. What is interesting is that the problem is affecting both sides. So whatever the goofed up they did to both sides.

The bulb socket for the DRL's/turnsignals is very finicky. I've had mine stop working just as you described after switching to white bulbs. When I took the socket/bulb out of the housing it started working again just fine.

I think certain brand bulbs just don't fit exactly perfect.

Thanks guys. In the end, all they did was replace the bulbs, neither of which seemed to be broken. So far everything works fine but I'm not totally convinced there isn't something else going on. I told the guy if I had to come back about the problem he wouldn't be happy. We'll see.

I had the same thing - fast flashing and the bulb was out, but then sometimes it'd work fine again. My friend who's a Toyota tech said the base of those bulbs often corrode just enough to cause that intermittent outage. I replaced both of them and the problem went away and hasn't come back, at least until these ones corrode. At around $5 for a pair of those bulbs it's probably one of the cheapest things for us to replace.

Put a little dielectric grease in the socket and it will never corrode again!
