What the current spoiled, entitled, mentally retarded generation we've been raising ineptly for the past few decades fails to realize is that private sales are of used, "as is" goods, for a fixed price with no claimed warranty and rely on the good faith of both parties.

If someone wants to haggle, waffle, buy and return, whine, yelp, or twitter--they can go to Costco and try the patience of those poor people.

Because they're damned good tires in really good shape. Not the sort of thing you go for when you need something cheap. And even if you do, you sure as f@$% don't do it like that. You don't open a negotiation with "what's your bottom dollar". It's lazy and it's insulting.

Another guy contacted me and said "hey, I really want those tires, I've only got x dollars, is that too low?" No harm no foul, I told him I wasn't ready to come down yet but I'd keep him in mind. Much better approach.

I put a drum set up for sale and received a bunch of emails saying they would pay me double to hold it for them. I was asking $200 cuz it was a cheap starter set. It was the I'll send you the check and you deposit it and send me the drum set scam. I eventually responded saying cash only and pickup local to mpls area because most of these emails came from people claiming they were out of state except for one, the scammer actually lived about 1 mile from my house after I had the IP address traced. My friend and I sent him something special in an email then

If she had mentioned trades considered in the ad, then I could see why they would offer to trade a horse, out of the blue.

That wasn't the worst by far. I can't bring myself to type the stupidity of some of the supposedly interested would-be buyers.

i have a platinum and diamond ring listed on craigslist that appraised for $3700. i have all of the appraisal paperwork and everything, and have it listed on craigslist for $1400. some guy emails me saying that he just had his appraised for $5000 and had to sell it for $600 and would i take $400. i tell him no, and he starts trying to twist my arm saying that I'm not going to get a better offer etc etc.

i reply back that i don't really care, I found the ring on the beach and couldn't find its owner and I'm not in a hurry to sell it - holding onto it is no shirt off my back.

So I've got a set of tires up for sale locally. They're good tires, and I've listed them at a very good price. Three people have contacted me wanting to know what's my bottom dollar. They haven't asked to come look at the tires, they haven't asked any more questions about their condition, they haven't even made an offer. Just "what's your bottom dollar".

A good answer is "I only negotiate pricing with ppl who have seen the tires, do you want to do that?"

Another is "well I'd take $10 off for a quick sale, when do you want to see them?".

I don't sell much stuff, but when I have I just set up a new email for the ad
and I just trash the obvious crapola. If an intelligent sounding prospect inquires then I reply.

If you put something up for sale, then expect bargain hunters.

Personally, as a seller, it makes no difference to me if someone ask me for the bottom line vs. someone who says he/she has X dollars and if I will sell it for that. Both are quick answers.

These buyers are much better than those that lead you along intentionally only to NOT show up on the appointment date or try to scam you.

Which folks will waste more of your time?

I recently had the "pleasure" of selling my parents' car...I much prefer the quick answers to the idiots who promised the world only to not show up!

This reminds of a guy that had a bunch of NOS (new old stock) Motorcycle parts. Some of them were very rare, and simply could not be found elsewhere.

So a guy shows up to buy a brand new, pristine, never installed fender for his rare 50 year old Motorcycle.

The prospective buyer proceeds to insult the seller with extremely low ball offers.

Finally the seller has had enough, and says "I'm just going to give you the fender. But first I need to make some adjustments".

He proceeds to smash the fender flat, and then bends the flattened fender in half.

The prospective buyer is screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, I NEED THAT!!!"

The seller hands it to him and says "There you go, have a nice day".

Lol, I was trying to sell my Camaro for a couple months for $3500. You can't build what I have for it. I think I got 3 people offering 2000 without even looking at it. I tell people to go buy a rusty shitbox then.
