Several posters have talked about hitting 100+ in an SUV (not indicative of having great judgement in my opinion), but the guy above takes the cake.
-106 mph in a 4runner.
-Racing.

Sir, where is your brain? I seriously hope you are just some kind of troll, if not you're just another idiot I see on the freeway that thinks if his truck can go that fast, it's safe to drive that fast.
Anybody else that thinks 100 mph in an SUV is a good idea needs to think about things a little more clearly. Hell, if I hit 75 in mine I start to get a little nervous. These things don't have the brakes, suspensions or tires to handle maneuvers at that speed. If you want to drive 100, get rid of your 4runner and go buy a little car that can do it.

I found out last fall when I decided to go prairie dog hunting how fast i could go. I think it was 106MPH and then the governer kicked in until around 90 or so mph. It was fun to see how it was. It had no problem getting there. You couldn't tell that you were even going that fast. I do have slightly bigger tires so I was probably going a little faster.
oh u guys are pathedic... ive gotten to easily 110MPH going down a hill on an interstate at about 3 in the morning...
and i have a 4Cyl...
the hood starts to shake a bit when u hit around 70 and it begins to feel a bit unstable, but ive easily cruised from NC to VA down I-85 at about 90MPH on cruise

Amen Cory! Last I checked we are all old enough, albeit maybe not wise enough to drive at high speeds. That said, touching triple digits is such common place in the south that fellow 4Runner owners talk like IF YOU DO, you will be damned to hell for the simple thought of it!
My '93 4Runner needed a long stretch and a good tailwind to get it above 85 mph, my 05 V8 hits 100+ in a little over a 1/4 mile. I concur, the governor kicks in around 112 on my 05.
Also, for those of us who have lived in Europe for years (not just a novelty) and have driven for hours at speeds in excess 100 and many times in excess of 150mph, all of this breaking the 100mph sound barrier chat is simply checky.
Those who drive motorcycles know that 100 is almost reached in 1st gear on 1000cc models. And I hope we all agree, it is stopping (the huge time/distance to do so) and impact that kills, not "going" that speed. I also hope 4Runner owners agree, our SUVs are deadly weapons, the more FPS (feet per second) we go, the harder it will hurt if we collide and our beasts simply are not racing machines.
So back to why this thread started.....what is the top speed the various generation 4runners go? I heard the 5th gen is 105, the 4th 112(?) (V8), and personally (why I clicked on this thread) would like to know what the others models go with a 6 cylinder and a 5spd.... or whichever configuration you have.
A lot of good info comes from these discussions (like what speed to safely shift into high/low range, recommendations to why we should, safety), but seriously, why do people always feel compelled to insult others about speeding, etc? This thread isn't there to say "go race your SUV 'cuz you are charged with the duty of this forum to post your speed"--you know why it is here, please teach/share with me something about our trucks I didn't know! And you all know the consequences both legally and how dangerous it is to speed in the USA. Moreover for me, the "other guy" doesn't expect to see a silver bullet approaching them at 100mph in their rearview and they panic and does exactly what we can't imagine they will do (fill in your story here).
If you have made it this far through my rant....here is a tester that should be in a totally different forum.....but I want to test Thai if he still reads all the rants out here--has anybody here used the rear center armrest, pop-out cup holder as a "James Bond" pistol holder?!
I have modded my own to sacrifice the cup holder aspect of it (Dremmel) and now with a simple push, I have a Sig 239. 357sig at my fingertips (NOTE: a .40 cal, P239 WILL NOT FIT).
A P239 tucks away BEAUTIFULLY when stowed--I can't imagine a would-be thief would look in there for it AND my SUV has been inspected at military gates (with dogs) over 12 times and never once had that (legally owned/registered/concealed carry) weapon found.
IMPORTANT Reminder: If you have kids, or anybody riding in the rear seat, Remove the weapon from that space. But if you are out on a solo-run it makes for a PERFECT P-239 spot that (if the armrest is down), can be reached and opened with a push of the spring loaded cup holder.

ps. BTW Racing a Mustang?! Maybe we have a chance with a S/C and it is a 6 cylinder Stang and you are between stoplights...oh wait, are we talking with 8" of snow on the road?! Hellz yeah, our 4Runner will tromp any Stang then!

Like 7 years ago ....A little over 100mph with my 99 Plymouth Breeze....on my very first roadtrip going from Indy to New York...got caught by a 
olice: about 45 minutes from my destination....Crap!!!!...got a ticket for $150.00 My one and only ticket ever!...
Ps: I saw the cop from far but could'nt slow down on time...tried ... but only was able to go down to around 90mph or so.

done around 100-105 for about 3-4 hours driving from south cal. to washington on some of those hi-ways where your lucky to see another soul every other hour or so.... i was always in control, and that isn't that fast either i have been driving in europe off and on for about 10 years and i can tell you cruising @ 110mph is no big deal, cars routinely go 110 on the freeway's in fact if your doing 85-90 in the fast lane(actually called the passing lane) your going to get all sorts of road rage, you also have to keep in mind the fact their roads are shit compared to our 8 lane wide super straight mega freeways, no offense but most American drivers are the biggest morons i've seen in my whole life after driving in more countries than i can count, (the dutch kinda suck too they're like new yorkers) typically though i cruise at about 5-10 above the speed limit depending on the conditions.....
my point of all of this is it's not necessarily speed that kills it's a combination of things, and no i wouldn't feel safe doing 110 on I-5 too many idiots, but there are some places in the country that are open and desolate enough to be safe driving fast.

You remind me now when I used to travel a lot to London UK....I drove a couple of times on the higway...really fun.....but in the city..is a headache and a PITA...the parking spots and streets are so narrow...and u bearly see a SUV or pirvate truck in the city unless is a Commercial vehicle. No wonder why Europe has the best car racing drivers in the world. The funniest thing is when you are walking a ...they make sure you know where to look for traffic when crossing the street...that famous sign on the floor for the tourist saying

you have no idea how long it took me to get used to that and i constantly want to go wrong way on roundabouts the worst was though living and driving in england and then trying to take the chunnel over to main land europe, i felt like i was there delivering mail to all of mainland europe, lol
also learning to shift with the left was interesting for the first little bit, hahaha

I've gone 100 in my '95 with about 800lbs of cargo. It was pretty flat though, no one around literally.
On the '04 I was just driving on the expressway and then looked down and realized I was doing 95, totally didn't realize it as I was just following other cars.
My '95 I usually go 80 if I'm in a hurry and no traffic on the expressways. But on average I go 70-75.
