Wheels / Tires Ordered. Should I change springs??

I just placed an order for a set of wheels and tires for my 2006 4Runner SE.

The X-Reas were removed a while back and currently running blisteins with stock springs all around.

Wheels ordered:
Method MR311 VEX 17 x 8.5 (0 offset).

Tires ordered:
BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2s 265/70 R17.

Currently the truck has the spidertraxx spacers on it, which I am planning to remove as I am hoping I wont need them with the new wheels & tires.

Americas Tire Co. assured me that the setup should work without rubbing. Bit hesistant on that as I was initially planning to go with 265/65 R17. But they insisted they would test fit and ensure it works without rubbing. They are willing to do minor trimming for me.

I am planning to move the bilsteins from the bottom setting to the one in the middle.

I have about $500 left in my mod budget. Any suggestions on whether its worth to change the springs. Truck doesn't see much off-roading, just some snowboarding trips.

fyi: I will probably remove the replacement $126 option as well.

Hah, I'm literally doing the same thing you are except I went with the TRD wheels. I'm gonna head over to Americas Tire tomorrow and pull the trigger on the BFG AT KO2s in 265/70/17 also. I have 265/65/17 on there now but after a few searches on this forum, it looks like the 265/70/17's fit without rubbing.

A few guys working at the tire shop said they all run the same tire so that made me feel warm and fuzzy before dropping all my $$$. :D
 
As long as it rides well for you now, I wouldn't spend the money on springs. Lifting it any more won't really help with rubbing either.

Thanks. I’m content with the way it rides right now. The front does looked sagged a bit, but hoping that will change with adjusting the bilsteins to the middle notch.

If no springs, then maybe it’s time for a dash cam [emoji39]

Apparently the wheels came in super quick and I am planning to go get them installed in about 3 hours.

NOOB QUESTION:
Do you guys recommend waiting to get the alignment on Monday after I have the bilsteins adjusted by my mechanic Monday Morning, or is it okay to get the alignment done today after the wheel install then adjust the bilsteins on monday??

Change as in, just replace with new stock springs or pick up some other springs like the FJ Cruiser springs?? I guess I should mention that my 4runner has about 125k miles (thus thats the mileage on the current springs).

I guess my noob question was, wont I need a alignment after adjusting the shock. Furthermore need an alignment after shock adjustment + new springs?

Either is fine. The new 4runner springs will freshen up you ride. If you add fj springs (like I did) you get a little but of natural lift and a firmer ride. I bought new moog fj cruiser springs

Were the moog fj cruiser springs a direct fit, or did you have to do any adjustments to make them fit?. Would you possibly have a link to where to got them? Then I can also compare the prices to the stock springs as well.

They are supposed to be a direct fit. But my right rear spring was a ***** to seat. But once I realive that all I needed was a 3 ft crowbar pushing at the right angle, she popped right in


Been a few years for me on the purchase. No idea where I got them. Maybe amazon.

Thanks. I am going to do some research on if I need to swap out the springs and if so, then which ones (stock or fj).

I just called my local dealership and they quoted me for the stock springs:

Front Springs: $149/each
Rear Springs: $179/each

My reaction was pretty much :jaw:

Need to shop around (my local dealership is overpriced majority of the time).

Waiting here to get alignment done. Photos don’t do it justice. Have minor rubbing on the fender and mud flap up front. Having them adjust the front bilsteins to the 1.75 or top notch to hopefully get rid of the rubbing without having to remove the mud flaps or mess with the liner. If not then tomorrow will be figuring out how to do that.

Looks killer, there is a post on here about how to do it. I just did it today, you can remove the 10mm screws underneath your front bumper that hold the wheel liner, pull it forward and get an idea where you want it to be without rubbing. Drill a new hole into the liner and button it back up. I also removed my mud flaps. Zero rubbing with 265/70/17's.

Looks awesome man. Yeah I’m just getting the alignment done. Will be removing the mud flaps tomorrow and then having my local mechanic adjust the bilsteins from .85 to 1.75 on Monday morning. Big brand tire wanted $220 to adjust the bilsteins,so I passed on that (have another mechanic that ca do it for much cheaper).

Imo

i dont like the idea of preloading a OE spring that already has 100k + miles on it. Dobinson or wheeler coils that re best paired with the 5100s and you wouldnt need to preload um. Would run you no more than $400 and be a big improvement

Actually am not too familiar with Dobinson. Will need to compare the fj vs. replacing stock vs. moog vs. dobinson.

Too many choices lol. Might hold of adjusting the bilsteins till I can figure somehow figure out if I should replace the springs (if so which springs).

The wheels do look a bit stuffed right now. Little bit of lift will help the look for sure .

the wheelers off road eibach branded coils as well. Mike from dobinson has a thread on here that he uses for fit Q and A.

Some 5th gen and FJ OE wheels have more negative offset than the 4runner OE wheels. For instance i run 8 hole FJ rims and they stick out about an 1" more but its noticable.
