When can we hit the Rubicon? Going camping this Friday

I'm dying to see this place. Looks like the toughest/most beautiful terrain I've seen. We're looking to do another cold weather camping trip this Friday so I suggested the Rubicon. :noidea:

I have been all around this area since December and it's of course packed in snow/ice above 6000ft. It's been 80deg down here at 1200ft so I was wondering if it's too early to attempt to even hit the base of the trail at Loon Lake? It's 91mi or 3hrs from my place. When will the trail be passable?

Anyone up for a camping trip/trail ride on 29 Mar?

I know the Crystal basin area (area around the Rubicon) pretty well, but I've only been on the actual Rubicon trail on a trials bike, or riding shotgun in my brothers rig. There is some good fishing and camping in the area (all family friendly) but unfortunatly a lot of trails/roads in the area have been closed. I'd be willing to make a trip up there but probably not untill mid to late summer. usuall around the end of may you can get to alot of the area but, there is still snow up in the higher sections.
