Well i called Bistein NA East to see if they could provide some information on this issue. The technical support guy said that we should not be seeing these kind of variances. He said that advertised lift amounts are averages, but we should only be seeing like 0.1 to 0.2" in variances….not and inch or more.

He also said that the only thing he could think would be causing this is the spring seat being on upside down ( i asked if thats even possible..) or the coils not being seated properly.

Basically he said that he would need to speak directly with those individuals that are having the problems and not go off hear say to provide any real assistance.

He also said that he wasn't aware of this being an issue and haven't heard any noise around the shop from the other guys about this, but would def like to hear from us on this.

@lezrace and '15weissrhino have you guys contacted Bilstein or TAP?

Haven't talked to anyone from Bilstein or TAP, will give them a call when I get home later this week. The spring seats are in correctly and evenly seated over the split ring according to the instructions, springs are in so the lettering is right side up and the upper spring seat/hat is aligned correctly. Parked it on a nice level spot the other day and it looks pretty close to level. A long ways off from the .1" or .2" variance though.

Ah, good... Was not trying to be insulting as shit happens. Someone did flip them with 5100s and had a corner collapse. Those seats are not nearly as beefy as these though.i

This morning and am awaiting a call back after explaining the issues described here in the thread.
Gave them details and told them there are also photos of said installs.
I gave them the thread name and hopefully they will view and determine some type of solution. I explained to them, this needs to be addressed as it will possibly cost the end-user money if they are paying for the install.

Hopefully I will receive a call and I can edit this post in a timely manner or if BILSTEIN makes a post (which I doubt), some resolution will come forth.

We'll see!

Well played Sir...

would the orientation of the coil make difference? Depending on which position the coil end is oriented in the coil seat, it could affect the height? Im noting talking about upside, I'm talking about the rotational position.

I know the 6112 coil seat is flat and doesn't have a notch, but I'm thinking depending on which way the coil end is facing, it may make a difference? Especially for the rear coil.

The coils themselves are flat on the top as well as the bottom. They are not like the OEM at all. It would make no difference how these coils are rotated on the seat.
What rear coil?

today (3-25-15) and spoke with the Tech dept, according to Mike@ Bilstein, they're talking with letzrace & '15WeissRhino and they are inquiring about the installs and the reported issues.
I was informed they will be installing some 6112's on employees T4R's @ different height settings to see what is going on and will be informing the letzrace &'15WeissRhino what they find.
They will be taking before and after measurements to confirm heights obtained.
They also said they will try to have information within the week.

I was also given a direct line to call the tech prior to my install.

One thing was mentioned about not fully tightening the lower shock mount bolt/nut until after the truck was back on the ground. (This is also mentioned in the repair manual)

EDIT: I couldn't remember the term used by Bilstein so I called. If the suspension is hanging in the air and the lower shock mount bolt is torqued in that position, they refer to it as "Rotational Torque or Torque Windup".

5160's

Well well, look what Brown did for me, again today.......

The 5160's came with the Bilstein Shock Boots and the Remote Reservoir Fixture designed to bolt to the frame....so it's ready to be installed, but, I prefer to wait on the Billet Clamp before install...it hasn't arrived yet!

Thanks Chas TotalAutomotiveLV !!!!

Saker which way are you going to install the reservoir on the 5160? The instructions say to orient main shock so that the hose fitting towards the rear of the vehicle and orient the reservoir so that the hose fitting is on the bottom, which would put it upside down (Bilstein letter upside down).

If you look at the videos and literature of the 5160 with the billet clamps, they have the orient reservoir so that the nipple is on the top.

I'm thinking the reason they tell to orient the main shock hose fitting to the rear and the reservoir hose fitting on the bottom so that it can work with the frame clamp, but if you're using the billet bracket, it doesn't matter.

I think before I do anything in reference to mounting of the reservoir, I will call Bilstein to make sure it can be mounted with the fitting in either direction.
The remote reservoir looks different than the one shown in the vid....it may make a difference, and then again, maybe not!

If you call them, please post the response!

5160 Remote Reservoir Mounting

5160 Remote Reservoir Mounting:

I called Bilstein this morning, spoke with a Tech and asked about mounting the reservoir with the Billet Bilstein Clamps and the orientation of the hose that sigbrown1297 raised the question on.

Bilstein stated since the reservoirs are under pressure it doesn't matter how one orients the remote reservoir.

So upside down right-side up or sideways, you will be ok!

Got the billet brackets today. Having the reservoir with the hose fitting on the bottom definitely has less tension on lines. They are steel braided lines so it should be okay. I do think it looks better with the hose fitting on top. I'll prob go with top as long as the lines doesn't interfere with anything. I'm guessing it will be a good idea to putting some thread lock on screws.

Got Momma home from the hospital but 5 days of hospital chairs 24-7 has my back out. Will go to chiropractor in a few and hopefully remedy that so I can install tomorrow. Going Res up in the billet brackets.

The 5160 setup is lookin' good, and I'm really looking forward to your install!

And Zeus ..Hope everyone is feeling better real soon, also!

BTW, how much lift are you gents looking for, and where are you planning to install your circlips? Do you have any lean stock, and if so, how do you plan to correct it?

Thanks in advance for the info ..

I'm hoping to get 2.5" in the front with the 6112. Was planning on putting it at the top ring, but we are still waiting to hear back from Bisltein due to the discrepancy between the advertised vs the actual lift height that some of us are seeing.

I got 1.5" SAW coils but anticipating that it will be closer to 2" based on what I've been reading.

As far as lean, Im prob won't' do anything with it unless its drastic.

Hope "Momma" is doing fine and hope you get better as well!
Can hardly wait until we get the results from your install!

BlacknTan,

I am hoping everyone takes good measurements prior to their installs, I know I will measure again just prior to mine!!! :deadhorse:

I am looking for 1.75" ~ 2.0" front lift, hoping the 4th Circlip position will be correct on the install.
Really waiting now for some data to flow back to us from Bilstein and also from Zeus after he tackles his install and publishes the results. (hint hint)

As far a the possibility of lean, which I currently do not have, I have purchased 2 Toytec TP14's, left one at 1/4" thickness and had a friend ( :hail: you know who you are ) face one to 1/8" thickness just in case I need it!

Not raising the rear, but since the 5160's are high pressured, I will note if I get any additional height after install of those.

Hope this helps!
