Which suspension lift and tires??

To be honest, find a small offroad shop in the area to do it for you. There are a few. Personally, I would try to do it yourself if you or a buddy is comfortable doing it.

The lift I'm looking at is either the Toytec Ultimate lift or OME. Leaning more toward OME for its weight capacity since I tow a lot and generally have weight in the rear cargo area. As for rims, I'm looking at ION 174's and BFG MT KM2 285/75/17.

To your last question, their isn't a lot of selections around here for lifts, you will be better off finding a decent price online at places like Toytec or Wheelers Offroad, preferably one with no sales tax and decent shipping.
I see. I have a friend that owns a mechanic shop. He normally doesn't do lifts for suvs or trucks but i'm sure he'd be willing to help me out.

OME is probably what i need to get. Especially cuz I tow stuff like my boat/uhaul when i move to nebraska this fall. Those IONs are pretty sick. I really want black rims but i'm a little tight on money right now so maybe after i get the lift and tires. :D So basically the game plan is to buy offline and have my friend install with me. Thanks for the help.

What part of Sac are you from?

I'm thinking about getting 285/75/17 BFG A/Ts and might as well keep my stock rims.

Just a heads up, with this size tire you will have to trim your body mount and it also might require a body lift in addition to just the suspension lift. I know a body lift is required for 35's, not sure about 34's. Also, dropping your bumpstops some will help with rubbing, but will limit your travel slightly.

Anything over 33" (285/70/17ish) will take a lot more work to make it fit.

Love type-o's....

285/70/17 is what I'll be getting.

Ah, okay. I was guessing it was a typo-o, but just wanted to make sure :D

With trimming of the inner fender, you will be fine then.

StormTrooper, if you go OME get a 5mm trim packer for the left front. Several have put a non-coilover lift and then noticed a list/lean. It so cheap why not have it really sweet. Scroll down the page and you'll see the part I'm talking about. http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/03upome4runner.htm
So you're saying that OME tends to have a lean/list? Is that normal? I think I know what you're talking about because every once in a while I see an SUV or truck that looks like it is leaning to one side. Is that what you're talking about?

Would spacers such as spidertrax help with that? or would i still need to trip quite a bit?

Well with 33's spacers are REQUIRED so that they will clear your stock UCA's (aftermarket UCA's will also allow them to clear). Also, you will need to do quite a bit of trimming of your inner fender. It is plastic, so it is no big.

With bigger than 33's you have to trim your body mount (it is where your body mounts to the frame). This is metal and a more complicated process to cut than your inner fender. Many also like to weld a new plate in place over where they trimmed the body mount so that they do not have two jagged edges. Also, lowering your front and rear bumpstops will help some with the rubbing.

Here is a good thread showing what you will need to do to trim your body mount.

Thanks for the heads up. I think i will just go with 33's and get some spidertrax. :D

I was actually just in Slee a couple of days ago having them install my Spidertrax wheel spacers and I was asking about OME lifts. Ben said that they almost never need to use a shim (small spacer on one side to even out any list). It's almost impossible to get a truck to sit perfectly level, but things like a full gas tank, heavier driver, gear, etc. will make a truck lean one way or another. I go back and forth about coil-overs and OME, but OME seams like the best bang for the buck. Plus, the shocks are pretty cheap so it's not worth dealing with rebuildable shocks IMO. So many decisions.....

That's good to hear. i don't want to worry about something i haven't even bought yet... OME is the direction i'm heading towards after all that i've heard. i just hope to get my stuff purchased by next week and possible installed before the weekend. :D but we will see.

As long as your buddy has a spring compressor you should be fine. They should be pretty comfortable doing it since it truthfully isn't any different then replacing a OEM spring that needs replacing, so you should be good to go!

Some OME come pre-assembled (spring and shock already put together) in which case you do not even need a spring compressor for the install.

Very true, guess you can chalk it up to me being a cheap guy :biggrin2:, I'll save money where ever I can.

IMHO I would save the money and just do it myself, however pre-assembled might be the way for StormTrooper to go.

Well you could have a shop assemble it for you (I had something similar done and it was $20) then do the rest yourself. IMHO, spending $20 is well worth avoiding the dangers of using a spring compressor, esp the cheap-o loaner ones you usually get your hands on

I'm almost positive my friend has a spring compressor and if not then i'll just have a shop do it for me for 20 bucks. i guess i'll have to download 2 more movies instead of seeing them in the theatre. :D

I just installed the Toytec 3" unltimate lift all by myself and it only took 7 hours and I have never installed a lift before. Here is a picture of my new lift.:D I ordered it right from Toytec and it came out to just under $1300 for the lift and shipping..

Yes. On the T4R's the drivers' side seems to be the low side that's why I was suggesting the trim packer on the drivers' side strut assy.

I don't think the OME "causes" it. They all seem to lean a bit. Many who have lifted here and at T120 report noticing it more after they lift. I think they notice it because they're looking at the lift with a very discriminating eye and didn't pay as close attention prior to the lift.
