Who else wheels this hard in open diffs?

First thread I checked since being off line. It did not disappoint......bahahahaha.....I ride my dirt bike up trails....wonder how that will go over with one? Keep at it boys...:target:

Well it's certainly a solid opinion and I will admit in all the years of this I have seen programs and money that were supposed to benefit us do the opposite. Lots of promises broken for sure. But, I think at this point I'm in support with the way the funds are routed...currently.

Nothing wrong with that in the slightest....

I'd love it if TFO and PFO of BLM would keep the promises they made to get our support. Unfortunately, bureaucrats basically are unelected and answer to almost no one....so the best one can hope for is making solid alliances with those in positions of power that can at least see your vantage point. That's why we took these guys out on trail runs with us and were allowed to open a lot of new trails in various areas around the state.

It all just depends (unfortunately) on the luck of the draw and the personalities within those government agencies tasked with land/resource management. In many cases, the easiest way to "manage" is to deny access altogether....which is unfortunate when that is the option chosen.

In all fairness, when we're riding our dirtbikes, we're riding with a locked rear. So.... totally green

Back on the original topic - yes, I used to wheel that hard with open diffs. But I have found that being locked keeps my trail breakage down and therefore my cost down.

The ROI for having lockers is pretty good.

Dude... pull that motor and put it in a modern frame. I have a buddy with a kx500 in a 2013 yz250 frame, set up for the dunes, and it's a ripper. Such a fun bike. I'm a thorough 2 stoke guy, so the smell and soind of a big displacement premixer is a bit of heaven to me.

I will say I didn't go in Micky's Hot Tub or The Escalator... however... Now I'm REALLY wondering if I NEED a rear locking diff. Thoughts?

I used to and good on you for doing it. And I think everyone who wants to wheel hard should do so too. IMHO too many guys build their rigs to be bad A**, before they learn how to wheel to the limits of their trucks. And besides it is fun to do obstacles that other guys think can't be done with out lockers, my buddy and I wheeled Holy Cross Trail and did it in two rigs that were open/open and had a blast. Grated we had a few repair to do after.

That being said things like dual cases and lockers will give your rig the ability to do things that you never believed it could and you will do it with less breakage, or at least when you break you may need a second job. LOL

Keep wheeling every chance you get. Try obstacles that everyone says you can't do, and if you can't they were right and you showed you have a desire to build your driving skills. If you break upgrade and keep wheeling. Colorado has some great trails to improve your skills on. I miss living there, though AZ is no slouch either.

Actually there are plenty of mods around here and while leeway is given I wouldn't push your luck.

Trolling comments are against the rules, even if executed via 100 small pinpricks.

No dunes where I live. Lots of rocks. It's set up soft to ride the rocky trails of central PA. I can ride over a 10" log sitting on the seat. But the trade of is 4' of air will bottom it out.
