Who's Lovin' the East Coast Snow?

Any of y'all planning on takin' a 4x4 adventure tonight or tomorrow? I know I am!

I'm in Central MD and we are getting blasted pretty good right now. I'm gonna wait a little longer before venturing out because:

A) Wanna really put the DuraTracs to the test

and

B) I want to wait until there are few or no cars on the road.. don't need someone slamming into me.

I got my tow rope handy because I always see people stuck in ditches after sliding off the road. If you go out, be safe, take a tow rope and extra layers (in case you have to hoof it) and SLOW THE F' DOWN!

I H8 snow, and anyone with a mildly long driveway will probably agree with me, i have gotten up early to shovel and snowblow enough this winter that i much prefer no snow, even at the cost of no snow drifting.

I live in Ohio and we are getting SLAMMED. My fiance just left to go plow and I know he probably won't be home until tomorrow afternoon.

Maybe if I get bored tomorrow I'll take her out for some fun, even though its a 2WD. My Cooper Discoverers do pretty darn good in the snow!

You don't know how right you are. I was on I-70 last Saturday in the snow and, I kid you not, there were cars off the road every 1/4 mile. It was ridiculous. What the "F" are people doing?

On another note, I took the 4Runner out on a 20 mile trip tonight. Got back around 12:45am. Over a foot on the ground. Closer to two in a few drifty areas. Not only did the 4Runner (and DuraTracs) make it... it was almost too easy. If any of you know the Marriottsville area, then you know the type of twisty hills you have to tackle. My Tacoma would have at least slid the ass-end out a few times on me.

Around 12:30am I came to an accident scene where a plow had gone off the road (blew one of it's dualies). There were several cops blocking the road. One young officer came to my window and asked me where I was headed and if I'd had anything to drink. I admitted I had had 1 drink (the truth) about an hour an hour earlier... but he asked me to step out of the car and proceeded to administer a field sobriety test... in a freakin' blizzard! Between the deep snow under my feet, the wind and the snow blowing in my eyes, it was hard not to seem uncoordinated. I had informed him that I was testing out my new toy. By the grace of God, he let me off with a "kinda dumb to be messing around in a blizzard," to which I aggreed. He sent me on my way. I wasn't drunk, but man, that gets your heart thumping.

Tomorrow morning... round two!

I and anybody else in the Denver area are so jealous right now... We have had nothing but crappy weather (which means no snow at all) and it is getting ridiculous now... We received one half inch in January and the Tuesday after MLK day, we were at 70 degrees while Florida was below freezing... Skiing has been flat out terrible in Summit County (a major resort area an hour from Denver) and although they did get a 2ft blast two weeks ago, it certainly does not make up for the lackluster December and even November for that matter... Sad to think four months ago, we received a really nice dump which opened local mountains earlier than ever in history to wind up like where we are now... Still we Colorado residents are in the midst of an El Nino year and that normally brings late season dumps on the mountains and in Denver but usually most mountains are closed by then due to BLM land leases and foreigners from South America having to return home due to work visa issues... Hopefully we follow suit from the 2003 March dump that brought three and a half feet in the Metro area and a 6-8ft dump for those that live in the foothills above Denver... Sadly it seems so long ago and even more sadder is that Atlanta putpaced Denver in snowfall for the month of January...

The State of Delaware is snowed in. The Governor declared a State of Emergency and ordered all vehicles off the roads. The National Guard has been deployed and is arresting people for traveling on the roads. They ride around in H1 Hummers with DSP and other LEOs.

Was plowed in so even if I wanted to, I can't get my rig out of the parking spot in front of the house. :nono: The snow level is above the front bumper and grill. No way to test the rig's capability. I h8 being snowed in and its why I have a T4R. :driving: But if the State says you can't be on the road, it spoils all the fun I could be having right now!. :reddance:

The same applies to a number of drivers in Pennsylvania.
I had scheduled a trip to visit friends in Maryland this weekend.
Even though I was taking the 4Runner I decided to postpone the visit since I didn't want to turn the normal 2.5 hour drive into 6-8+ hours.

Woke up this morning to find the snow piled up to the running boards on my 4Runner.
I hear the area where my friends live in MD have 10-12+ inches more than I got here at home.
They probably wish I did come to visit with my 4Runner.

Well, soon time to venture out to take some photos and to start snow blowing.
The snow is still coming down pretty good right now here in Eastern Pennsylvania but the depth of the snow is getting kinda high for my snow blower to deal with.

For those venturing out for work or play be CAREFUL out there.
Most of us have a healthy respect for what our 4Runners can and cannot do under snowy conditions.
Too bad some other drivers (especially those with 4WD) we share the road with, do not.

I love huge storms and am jealous but we do have a small storm moving in that might bring us 4-8" in the metro area of Denver but they don't even close schools til we see over a foot so it's a weak one.

My former residence (Leesburg, VA) got 32". It will take VDOT weeks to get them cleaned out. They just don't have the equipment.

Enjoy it if you can and remember to lift with your knees when shoveling. Take your time and don't overdo it.

Our last snowfall up here was 20". Barely made a ripple. Then again, the trucks here all have double-wide plows.
