Who's ready for President Trump!

Trump scares the shit out of me and from the outside looking in, the US seems to have done well under Obama, no?

Certainly better than the last guy who left the country in a huge recession, bleeding jobs, entangled in several expensive wars, a deficit and a currency that was worth less than Canada's.

no. just no.

obama has added more than $7 trillion in debt, while gw bush added just under $6 trillion, and obama's term isn't over.

as far as deficits, do your homework. obama has BY far created the highest deficit, at nearly $6.7 trillion, while bush created $3.3 trillion.

how's that taste? maybe stick to canadian politics, eh?

I could be wrong, but didn't Obama HAVE TO increase debt to a greater extent than anyone would want to in order to recover from the economic wreck of a recession he inherited?

Is there any other way to recover like we needed to other than by adding to debt (which is a high wire act of deception any way)?

that would be speculation as to cause/reason, whereas i posted the actual numbers for them, without commentary as to reasons. just the numbers. read into them whatever you want, but the canadian commented that the deficit was higher under shrub. it wasn't, and it wasn't close.

All economists agree this has been the worst recovery from a recession since they started recording economic data.

Here's an interesting fact: when the US public just got tired of Obama blaming the shrub for the country's economic woes, he just gave up, shrugged his shoulders and hit the golf course.

But wasnt most of that deficit due to the financial collapse in progress when he took office?
Bailouts?

IIRC the biggest deficit in recent history was Bush's final budget, no?

Also a great lesson in how trickle down economics and deregulation don't work.

how's that taste? knowing less about your own country than a foreigner. Maybe look at reforming your education system, eh?

Unfortunately for you and your marvelous education system, debt, which is the accumulation of deficits was being discussed.

Barry has accumulated more debt than Bush II. Period.

I'm sure you will be in great hands with PM Justin Bieber.

Nope. We were taking about deficit. It was in reference to my original post.

no. bush's largest FY deficit was his final year, around $1.2 trillion (only FY during his presidency where it was in the trillions). total deficit was as noted in my earlier post. there have been three FYs for obama where the deficit exceeded $1 billion, and total deficit is more than twice shrub's.

it appears your canadian education system needs to do a better job. or not, as the case may be.

Budget Deficits by Fiscal Year

President Barack Obama: Total Projected Plus Actual Deficits = $6.695 trillion, a 57% increase.

FY 2017 - $503 billion projected.
FY 2016 - $616 billion projected.
FY 2015 - $438 billion.
FY 2014 - $485 billion.
FY 2013 - $679 billion.
FY 2012 - $1.087 trillion.
FY 2011 - $1.300 trillion.
FY 2010 - $1.587 ($1.294 trillion plus $253 billion from the Obama Stimulus Act that was attached to the FY 2009 budget).

President George W. Bush: Total = $3.293 trillion, a 57% increase.

FY 2009 - $1.16 trillion. ($1.413 trillion minus $253 billion from Obama's Stimulus Act)
FY 2008 - $459 billion.
FY 2007 - $161 billion.
FY 2006 - $248 billion.
FY 2005 - $318 billion.
FY 2004 - $413 billion.
FY 2003 - $378 billion.
FY 2002 - $158 billion.

Lol OK John Maynard Keynes.

If the measure of the worst leader of a country is the one that posts the largest one time, non-inflation or GDP adjusted deficit then you are 100% correct.

I don't want to keep you from your poutine and seal clubbing party so you can run along now to your igloo.

correct. deficit is what i pointed out to you.

you are welcome to believe that you know more about this country than i do, i really don't care what you do or don't know, and how much of it you do or don't know. you might know more about this country than any person alive or ever lived, but you are still only a canadian, and your opinion means squat in the USofA unless and until you decide to become a US citizen. at that point, your opinion will have some meaning.

But that's not what I said.

What I said was that Obama was left a country with an enormous deficit, and that he's certainly leaving the presidency with the country in better shape than when he took over. The same can't be said for his predecessor. Hence my statement that the US seems to have done well under Obama.

You seem to really enjoy these childish "gotcha" games. As if finding the slightest inaccuracy in something I said somehow discredits everything else and my opinion in general.
I enjoy fact based debate, but let's stick to the facts. This is now one of several threads in which you seem to badger me needlessly over every statement or opinion. Almost as childish as the guy name calling our PM above.

That plus sky rocketing unemployment, financial system on the verge of collapse, major manufacturers about to go under, disaster in the middle east after invading the wrong country, a healthcare system that leaves people to die in the street, a failing education system, skyrocketing tuition and student debt, etc, etc

You say the only measure as if I didn't mention a bunch of others in my original post that started this all....?

your terminology is incorrect, then.

he was saddled with enormous debt following the largest (at that point) single FY deficit. however, he has increased the debt enormously by continuing to incur FY deficits, including 2 of the 3 largest FY deficits.

of course, none of it is in a vacuum, and the house, senate, and citizens play a role.

i fail to see how that has placed the USofA in a better place, although as an outsider, i can see how YOU would feel that way.

I am so sorry. My bad.

I confused Justin Bieber with Justin Trudeau. It's just so hard to find a difference between the two...maybe if my horrible education system had taught more critical thinking I'd be better equipped to compare and contrast the two.

Well markets are up, dollar is up, gas is down, unemployment way down, gm is alive, banks are lending again, foreclosures are down.

How are things worse?

Because he wasn't able to cut 800 billion out of the budget in two years? Isn't the current deficit roughly half what it was when he took office?

it isn't in a better financial place, the national debt is higher, the health-care system is even more dysfunctional. neither bush nor obama has much to crow about, they both made things worse than the day they took office.

the devil is in the details. as it relates to the facts about debt and deficit re: obama and bush, you factually erred. that's the point. better?

No. You misunderstood my point. But again you seem to be obsessed with the "gotcha" game.

When was the last time the debt didn't increase? How does today's deficit compare to the deficit when Obama took office?

you can keep claiming that, but you are factually incorrect. i don't misunderstand you in the least. the last presidential TERM in which the debt decreased? truman's first.

the debt/gdp ratio is increasing. the last term in which it decreased (slightly?) - clinton's
