Who's ready for President Trump!

There's a long history of fire brigades in this country.
They used to be private, and they would compete with each other to put out fires first, so that they could be paid the insurance money for saving a building.
However, if your building didn't have insurance, it was hard to get any of the brigades to respond, because they knew there was no money for them.

(See wikipedia, history section third paragraph )

So the point is, the current model of Police protection and fire departments IS socialized. If you call 911, the will police come or the fire department comes and puts out your fire. They don't stand out front, waiting to see if you can pay before they decide to help you.

Unlike earlier times in America, where (according to wikipedia)

"In the early days of the fire service, fire departments were, more or less, social organizations in the community. And, being an accepted member meant a certain social status in the community. Remnants of that social status can still be found today in the traditional style firefighter's helmets that resemble top hats worn by the early firefighters. Monies that were used to help fund the organization were obtained by insurance company payouts from fighting fires. Firefighters could easily tell just who had fire insurance and who didn't by fire insurance marks located on the front of the home. Often it was a problem for homeowners who did not have insurance to have the fire department respond to a fire in their home and effectively remove belongings and such because the firefighters knew that there wouldn't be any money in it for them."

Smh. Nice using gangs of New York as a reference

None-the-less, it it still a concept of Socialism, even if it existed before the word was invoked or the concept was more formally developed.

You're missing the point. It is not a concept exclusive to Socialism, therefore it is not Socialism and Socialists don't get to claim it. Nor do they get to claim schools or roads or the National Weather Service.

Well. It depends. If the government providing the money for these collaborations, and if the collaboration & specialization is intended to serve the people at large, then that IS socialism. Socialism is the idea of using government as a means of providing resources to provide a service to the people. Socialism = owned by the people collectively, and provided as a service to the people.

A democratic government does not provide any money it hasn't already taken from the people in one form or another. To say that "government provides X" in the context of a democracy is meaningless, because the government only operates at the will of the people it is governing. If the members of a community decide among themselves to allow the government to tax them and build roads and schools and train firefighters and such, that isn't Big S Socialism, it's just a contract among the members of that community. Again, cooperation and specialization in a society to get things done more efficiently is not Socialism, and you trying to include those things in order to make Socialism seem less threatening removes all sense of meaning from the word.

Qatar is a monarchy, and completely irrelevant. No democratic government does anything without the direction and consent of the governed, and owns nothing the governed don't allow it to own. EVERYTHING a democratic government can give to the people it governs, it first has to take from the people it governs, so by your definition every single democracy in the world is Socialist. That's obviously not the case.

I personally believe trump is still a very liberal democrat like he's always been, he's just lying to everybody and playing into the hands of millions to gain the seat and assert his power.

Still voting for Sanders

That's the absolute truth. He truly is a con artist who will say ANYTHING to win.....and millions of simpletons don't see that......they probably think he'll give them a job in one of his casinos.

We're going to end up with 2 liberals to choose from.

I hope you're wrong. I do believe he says whatever he thinks people want to hear, but to run on a basis that's polar opposite of what you stand on... That would be a whole 'nother ****ing level of evil.

Either way, Trumps a dangerous dude.

This. He is a businessman. He probably has a market research department telling him what and what not to say.

Little Ceasar, are you related to Little Marco? Come to think of it, Trumps hands do look like little dog paws ...

Nope, not lucky enough to be married to a Dolphins cheerleader. I do though like some of Rubio's points but he tends to come across as Napoleonic sometimes.

If Trump is enough of a bully to make fun of Marco's height I wonder just how callous he would be towards FDR or other presidents with physical impairments. Trump reminds me of O'Doyle in Billy Madison or Biff Tanner in Back to the Future Part II.

You've watched House of Cards right?

Doesn't every campaign have a campaign manager, PR specialist, and speech writer.

All the candidates are the same and are just saying what people want to hear. The White House hasn't contained and upstanding revered individual in decades.

Without a doubt. It's just that Trump's business plan is a serious flip flop when compared to what he would say a few years ago, like endorsing Hillary in 2008.

I remember a quote that was somewhere along the lines of "They are all crooks; we only managed to catch Nixon".

Agreed like I said they are all liars and are just telling the crowds what they want to hear and they just have different crowds to cater to. Unfortunately all candidates involved are pretty terrible, between crass Trump, crazy Sanders, and Hillary being federally indicted . . . this election is a real crap shoot, and by that I mean just plain crap.

I'm going to keep posting this until somebody punches me in the face.

Seriously, check him out. Fiscally conservative and socially liberal, his foreign policy is to be non-interventionist when we can and tough when we have to be, he's awesome, his domestic policy is to balance the damned federal budget however we have to and then some, he's great. I think he's exactly what the US needs right now.

And with the Democrap and Retardican parties each so gruesomely split right now, I think he's got a real chance at a 3rd party win. He just needs exposure.

Nice to see a Libertarian gaining traction. I'll keep an eye out for Gary now.

I don't know if you are being serious or not, but the idea of that that guy being in charge of this country is scary.

we cant afford to give the government anymore money. we are already being taxed to the brink of failure. we already went to war over ideas like his...
so maybe it would be a good thing, the next revolutionary war is needed to rebuild this country.
