Who's ready for President Trump!

I completely disagree with this and I could easily and seriously see him walking off the job after 12-18 months to return to his life of leisure, excess, and freedom. High level gov't does not befit a person born into money. He has not worked a day in his life the way we would consider "work".

I would have voted for Mike Bloomberg in a heartbeat.

I could see him doing that too and that's scary. I disagree though about a normal person doing better. Normal people really suck at speeches and most have no clue how to debate an issue as evidenced in this very thread. What would be the worst thing for a non politican is having every single thing they do or say being watched by hundreds of people whose job is to trip you up. Can you imagine going through a day where every single thing you say or do being watched and critiqued by a hundred people? I couldn't do it.

I very much like the idea of electing someone not from the "establishment" of either R or D parties. I can not stand that we consistently have 2 party system that makes laws based on their platforms advancement and not on the good of the people of the United States. Which is the job of politicians.

I liked Rand but that was a shot in the dark. I loved Perot, but that didn't work out back in the day.

When I was a kid I was taught to "act like somebody" like Andy Taylor said. I don't think Donald is capable of doing that from what I've seen. The way he speaks to other Americans doesn't sit well with me. There's a difference between speaking your truth and being downright nasty to people for no reason. This "non pc" movement seems to grey that line rather thoroughly. I'm not perfectly pc but I don't go out of my way to hurt others either, I don't consider that to be manly or brave or American in any manner.

Quite frankly I think this is incredibly embarrassing as an American. I will never cast a vote for him.

I also worked with veterans researching ways to help reestablishing neural connections after traumatic brain injuries during the time Mr. Cruz did his best and was able to wreck our funding from the NIH and I think he either didn't understand the extent of the situation or did and didn't care either I don't care for. Further I don't agree with his interpretations of the constitution. (Though I don't think trump has even read it). Unfortunately seems like that's that for me and the GOP this year.

I hate Clinton.

I really like the idea too but Trump is not the answer or even remotely close.

and a vote like this could very well give us a Clinton again. It sucks.

and whos to blame?

Thats right.... a Republican party who preaches how horrible Democratic leadership has been and yet has failed to produce a viable, winning, competent alternative for 12 years. Yes, 12 years since their strategy should have started when Bush's last term began.

Loud voices, small brains, and zero cajones.

Donald Trump will be their candidate. Donald Trump. Thats despicable.

Which is why I said it sucks.

You can't let the democrats off of the hook though. They are giving us Hilary as their candidate. Hillary Clinton. Just as despicable.

The whole thing makes me ill.

In the age of social media, the uneducated and uninformed are easily influenced, manipulated and mobilized. Among other events, the Presidency has turned into a popularity contest where swag ranks higher than merit and hashtags and "likes" replace articulate and insightful dialog. This is our future... Welcome.

Good thing it's not a popularity contest that determines who is the next president.

It is very tiring to hear how awful ____ party or ___ president is over and over again instead of actual information and plans for helping the people of America.

In the current situation the GOP is doing this more and more. This is magnified by the fact that the opposing party currently holds power(in POTUS), so Dems aren't going to blast their own party during the campaign trail.

But, even if you think Obama is the worst thing that ever happened to America (which while I don't agree with his positions on some things, I disagree that he is the Worst thing in the world) you've got to realize your job is to help Americans not to wage war with democrats and hate fellow Americans and talk about how awful Obama is like a 7 year old throwing a tantrum.

This shouldn't be a race against the dirty liberals, it should be a race to better this country as a whole. I think GOP is in a situation where they are really pushing away unaffiliated voters by becoming an anti-Lib, anti anything but Christian, anti-poor record player instead of a pro-American party looking to represent the people as a whole. Unfortunately for the advancement of their party with current youth (and keeping it alive as time passes) the latter is really what they needed in my opinion. Instead they are backing up on their haunches and going the opposite direction to the extreme.

I mean really, the party is going to nominate either Donald trump who is getting phone call support and advocacy from the actual KKK or Ted Cruz, the extreme tea party christian polarizer. Paul Ryan probably could have walked into the presidency but wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Donkey party has their own freak out going on as an independent old man is giving them hell and doesn't represent advancement/does not have ties to promotion of the actual party. (Which is a load of shite to begin with) however while dangerous to the advancement of the party it is to me a much better evil to fight. They have to succeed in getting HRC the nomination and then get bern to endorce her, maybe even throw them a bone with a VP position and short term the problem is solved

Preach it, brother.

Next thing you know, there will actually be a reality show covering the election, with call-ins replacing votes.

Jack,
The uneducated and uninformed have ALWAYS been easy to manipulate. Social media is just another tool. As a matter of fact even educated and informed individuals are easy to manipulate. Ever watch a commercial? Read those ads at the top of the page you are currently viewing? If you have then you are being manipulated, regardless of whether you buy the product or not.

The Presidency has also always been a popularity contest, either from "popular" vote or electoral college. If we ever have a system where the most votes don't win or we are not allowed to vote then and only then will it not be a popularity contest.

I understand the premise of your post though.

I think you're discounting the effect of social media. The ability to influence, manipulate, connect and mobilize is a game changer.

IMO social media has drastically altered society for better or worse by connecting the people and the ideas (right or wrong). It's reach goes far beyond commercial and print because the audience is actively engaged. The fact that these companies (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) are using their platforms in a very biased manner to actively influence elections by way of suppression or promotion of content is of great concern to me.

Sure the presidency is and always has been a popularity contest but I think it has reached a new low as has the voter base.

Trump was in IL, with the focus on the loss of jobs and imposing tariffs on cheap imports.
The Smoot-Hawley Act, revised, for the 2016 election.

Should be interesting tomorrow in Miami....

In November we are asked to choose a person we trust to make reasonable, informed, smart decisions based on information he/she will get from advisors and experts that we, the citizens, will usually never know about. There is an enormous level of trust there and you are pointing even more clearly at why you need to choose the most astute, level headed, open minded, and composed person of the group who is most likely to represent the common person.

That IN NO WAY describes Donald Trump who has the demeanor of a spoiled 12 year old.

That describes him to the t and dots the i... Read his book and you will see that he has mastered the formula on doing just that...

The Wollman Ice Rink is just one example out of many.

I do think that if Trump does get elected there will be no gray area. He will either be the worst or the best president ever. No in between. That right there is a reason think hard before you vote.

That is the gamble... but based on past performance and known record I would wager that it would be the latter.

He has not worked a day in his life the way we would consider "work".

Again, read his book and you will see that he has worked and worked hard. You are repeating an all too common misconception that "rich" people haven't worked the way normal people work. In a way that is true... They usually work harder than most people have ever worked in their lives... (except those who as Donald Trump puts it are "Members of the Lucky Sperm Club... born wealthy and bred to be an aristocrat... never have to prove anything to anyone") Now he is enjoying the fruits of that hard work.

"I learned something from that: it's not how many hours you put in, it's what you get done while you're working." - Donald Trump (The Art of the Deal Pg 85)
