"SR5 grade transfer case changing from a lever to a switch type"... indicates that only the SR5 will be changing to a switch. the TE should remain the same: lever.
Hmmm...I look at the word 'grade' meaning the type (lever/switch), so that 'type' or 'grade' of product will be switching to a switch. Since the SR5 and LE share the same 'grade' of a product (the lever) I would be surprised if they kept the lever. Toyota is not going to waste money on 3 different types of transfer case methods.
Wha? LE doesn't have a lever.
i thought "grade" is typically Toyota-speak for trim level: e.g., SR5 (grade) -vs- Trail (grade)Hmmm...I look at the word 'grade' meaning the type (lever/switch), so that 'type' or 'grade' of product will be switching to a switch.
I thought that lever was cheaper than switch, switch is on Limited after all and less expensive models have a lever. Like lever better though.
The component parts are cheaper for the lever (likely), but I imagine the assembly at the vehicle plant takes more time and thus increases cost. They may have gotten some cost reduction or warranty complaint reduction by going to the switch for the high volume (SR5). I imagine most of the TE guys like the manual operation while not minding that the shifter vibrates. Your average SR5 owner (soccer mom, dad) probably prefers the switch.
I also prefer the lever, but I bet you my wife would prefer the switch.
