Awesome. I figured as much with all the flex in that plastic, but I'm always cautious about drilling in that area.

Don't quote me on this because it's been a while since I had the center console off, but I think that right there is where the vent pipe for the HVAC runs along. However I don't recall it being right against the panel, so there might just be enough room for some shorter ~3/8" screws.
I think it's really better to just take off at least the top of the console so you can see where you're drilling like [MENTION=6163]phillyd2[/MENTION] said, better safe than sorry right?
Here is a picture of where all ten clips are, you just need to remove the transfer case knob (if you have one, and then pry around with a trim tool to release the clips.

I'd pull the console up first to see where to put them as there are wiring harnesses and sensors under there. That side has one small harness that lights the shifter light and the AC duct going to the back seats.I drill some self tapping screws into center console tunnel, in particular where I've highlighted? Why not put the base up under the seat so it's out of the way plus it has a bunch of wires that have to go to it. You should have a bracket to get it up off the floor and how I mounted my Kenwood TM-V71A dual band that has the same base as yours but I mounted mine under the passenger seat.

I've been vacillating on drilling in a kydex type holster in that spot, but have a more universal one clipped to the front of my seat instead. I guess that type is a better choice anyway as it accommodates everything from the small cc piece to the large frame .45, but I guess I am getting slightly off topic.
