Will IOS8 Help Entune?

Since I am not a tech kind of guy, does anyone know if any of the updates for IOS8 will let the iPhone be used with Entune without having it plugged in?

I heard they were a little more liberal letting their developers do more with it this time.

?? I can stream audio via BlueTooth on my iPhone without being plugged in without issues.

I don't know what upgrades iOS 8 would provide outside of possibly a more refined implementation of the BlueTooth comms stack in the OS (I've not had time to read up on the updates coming in iOS 8).

Am I missing something?

Yeah, I mean outside of bluetooth, like all the "apps" in entune. Bing, weather, traffic etc..

No, it won't change anything. The wireless app functionality became available on 2014 and newer models, previous systems require the usb cable to be connected.

True, for those who have hotspot functionality it is another option.

Updated to ios 8, now when I connect the phone via USB I automatically get to hear (regardless of the current audio source) some garbage u2 album that was not even worth selling. Thanks apple!

Once it was removed everything was back to normal.

I was able to stream wirelessly via iOS 7 and I am able to stream fine with iOS 8 in my 2014 4Runner.

No changes here with iOS 8 and Entune in my '14. Still no messaging functionality, which is the only thing I can think is particularly missing.

Agreed on the terrible U2 album. Can't stand them.

There seems to he some confusion over what works and doesn't using and iPhone over BT. Wireless audio (A2DP) has always been supported. You can fire up any app that plays audio and it will send the audio signal through your car stereo.

What iOS lacks (that Android enjoys) is Serial Port Profile (SPP), which allows your stereo to connect to the internet brought your phone. The difference here is that you can actually control apps on your stereo interface. Pandora will not only show you the artist and song title (and album art?), but it will also give you the option to create and edit stations and thumbs up/down songs.

iOS 8 does not add SPP and so anything beyond audio is still going to require a cable connection.
