Reviews on the Rain-X wipers are always mixed because no one realizes or specifies which of the several different model of Rain-X blade they used. They make everything from basic cheap conventional to nice silicone ones.
That being said, I put a said of Latitude 2 in 1 blades on my dad's car and within a few weeks they were replaced. Worst blades I've ever had.
Many many many years ago, when PIAA headquarters was just a blocks from my work, I ran their Silicone blades on my Honda and they were incredible. I believe I had them 2 years before selling the car with them. Worked like new at that time.
I then put a set on my Jeep which saw a lot of off road dirt, mud, dust, etc. on the windshield. I'm also in NW Oregon so we get our share of rain to use wipers on. After a few years of that abuse, and 50k miles or so, they started to wear out so I replaced them. Rolled/totalled that rig shortly after.
I bought a truck that had Bosch Icons on it and they worked great. After a year I replaced them but should have stuck with the Icons again. I have never bought another set simply because I'm always trying the new new.
On my 4Runner I put a set of Rain-x non silicone wipers on and they were ok. Lasted one winter and I replaced with Scrubblades. The Scrubblades aren't as good as the PIAA in pure rain but they shine when it comes to getting bugs and crud off the windshield. The cleaning ability makes them a contender. I get about a year out of a set of Scrubblades and that is with a little abuse. I run them across ice to clear it, scrub bugs in hot weather, all the things you shouldn't do. I've run nothing but them since.
