WTF is wrong with these 4 runners?

so I was getting that clicking sound, when trying to start my 95- 4runner...which usually indicates a bad starter...and I put a new starter in it...and its still doing that clicking sound every now and then ..sounds like its coming from behind the glovebox....

the starter is new..and my battery connections are tight. If I turn the key on and off a few times, it eventually starts ?

any ideas what the hell I need to replace now ?

The starter relay is behind the glove box and the kick panel. Maybe that was the real problem to begin with.

you may be right...the toyota tech told me to replace the starter..LOL..

so how do I get to this starter relay ? Can I assume it isnt easy to replace ? :trophy:

I'm pretty sure if you take the glove box out and the passenger side kick panel off it's right there. Not hard to miss.

looks like they are about $50 on ebay...is there anyway to clean the relays contacts so they work properly { like you can do on the rear window relay}

Im used to working on 30 year old dodge trucks, that get 300,000 - 500,000 miles on their 360- 8 cylinder engines...and only having to spend 15 minutes to change a starter, or water pump or plugs . Im not used to having a badly engineered vehicle that gets poor gas mileage, has hardly any power , has a saggy butt , and more defects then a toy on the ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS . I now kick myself in the azz, for selling my 1981 dodge truck for $875 , that ran dependably and was easy to work on .

Yes. I purchased a aftermarket starter for $63....with a lifetime warranty..

compared to the OEM starter that woulda been about $150.


but it isnt the new starter...and in fact, it looks like my old starter may have been fine/.

it was the starter relay....the toyota tech told me it was the starter, and I guess he thought I was gonna pay them $500 to put it on....I find it hard to believe that the tech wouldnt have known it was the starter relay..or at least advised me to replace the relay first...since it was a cheaper part..and a easy thing to replace.
