Just wondering how long a rain-x treatment typically lasts?

Back when I drove jeeps I had my windshield replaced every other year. It was so flat it pitted and cracked all the time. They'd come and do it (no charge in MA) in the car park at my work. On the last one I replaced I was told the frame was so weak, from all the previous scraping to remove old goo, that it couldn't be replaced again. :-(

I've never had to replaced one on my 2004 Highlander or 2003 SR5. ;-)

ouch, just had the truck for barely 2 months, and my wife called on her way to work, sh!t, a rock chip from freeway cracked the windshield!!! by the time i could see it at night, it's been 2 feet long already!!! called the local shop, really good reputation shop, $230.16 out the door, and they use PPG glass, it is a very good quality glass besides OEM.

I think that aftermarket is the way to go if it happens again to me.

so far no a problem to me at all. PPG is the replacement glass for MB, BMW... instead of OEM (at least i know in here, sacramento, there's a shop called Hayes brother who does all euro automaker windshield replacement for the dealership). my parent's ML using PPG, my accord is using PPG, my friends' supras using PPG, none of them has any concern of any negative feedback yet.

It lasts about a month or so. I found that Rain-X attracts dirt and that's when it sucks because the wipers aren't effective at clearing all the water off the glass. But when freshly applied, Rain-X is great especially in the pouring rain.

Haha, not really, but you can try PAM. : J/K.

Rain-X is almost like a spray on wax/oil. There is a slight greasy feeling on your hands and paper towels after applying it. I spray it on the glass and buff until the haze is gone, which usually leaves the glass crystal clear.

I caught two rocks within a week of each other and a couple of weeks later on a particularly hot day I watched them race across the windshield. I have a little less than a year until I need a new inspection so its not getting replaced until then.

The OEM toyota glass has a water repellent? I didnt know that, interesting, is this on the glass as a lifetime thing or just some RainX applyed by Toyota?

I was told

that the original Toyota glass is more fragile. I am on my 4th in a 2003 -- all Toyota glass -- maybe next time I will try something else.

When I replace I'll get the generic glass, anything has got to be tougher than this toyota glass.

Does anyone have a recommendation on an aftermarket glass product. One that does not distort vision around the curves.

I'll definately be going aftermarket as well - next time.

Mine is a replacement Toyoata windshield, but didn't come with the repellent. The installer didn't know much about it, but said BMW's also repel water.

You can also use the Rain-X window washer fluid. I applied an off brand rain repellent, but that was 8 months ago. No doubt the stuff in the washer reservoir has kept the repellent action good all this time.

Get PIAA "Silicon" Wiper. Everywipe, it supposed to coat the windshield with the repellant stuff. A bit of smudge trails that evaporates in seconds gets a bit annoying, but I got used to it. I think it rocks. Plus, it's quiet!!

Got a crack a few weeks ago on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge... I guess it was a rock, but it very well could have been a bolt - it was REALLY loud.

I'm due for an oil change this weekend, so I'll have Toyota replace it. If it happens again, I'll use an aftermarket one.

Im using the Triple Edge silicone blades and it works awesome too, it says its made by Jamak silicone. It says its supposed to last a really long time, i just hate buying new wipers every year, seem like a huge waste of money.

i just windex mine last week, since it started to see some rain up here in nor cal. i windex'd all my cars already. it should last til the whole season.
