Yet another cracked windshield!

Considering the windsheild is a safety item, and this many people have issues with them, cant you all simply file reports and pretty soon have toyota recall all their glass and have them replaced with better units?
I dont think there is anything normal about replacing a windsheild every year, my other 2 cars are on the same windsheild since new which is 17years old.

If you're talking about your 300ZXs then I have a guess why. The angle of the windshields aren't as steep as the 4Runner. If a rock hits it, it probably gets deflected. The 4Runner's glass is more upright, hence they get cracked easier.

Not actually a crack but pitted very bad
I ran into the mother of all sanstorms coming back from Las Vegas last week.
The combination of going 50-70 MPH into hard blowing sand was like a sand blaster to the front of my T4R. I didn't notice it until I stopped for gas and a person in a 2008 T4R asked me if my glass was has badly pitted as theirs. I checked and ... WOW.
The front windshield, lights, and side mirrors all look like they were rubbed with super fine sand paper.
I have no idea if the other vehicles in the sand storm suffered as badly as our 2 4Runners but it sure sucked.

My insurance will cover it... with a $500.00 deductable.

Well you didn't mention it was so bad. Maybe you should invest in a hood deflector?

I guess one of those clear front end masks would have helped out? With the paint and lights anyway. That really sucks, a windshield is one thing, but a sandblasted front end is a bummer.

Not a crack but a couple pits from a few rocks bouncing off my glass today. Man do I hate it when they repave streets and leave all those asfault chucks laying around. I had two glance off the windshield today and now I have 4 pits on my glass. Bummer!
Nothing worth replacing at this time and I do have insurance coverage for this but it always sucks when something happens to your car that you have no control over!!!!

I'm going to say not true. My 2007 got a rock chip and cracked with 1800 miles on it. I've been driving 20 years and this is the first windshield I've ever had that chipped/cracked. I don't think the pebble that hit me would have done that to another vehicle. My Tacoma pitted really badly after driving in a sandstorm. I can't say i'm impressed with Toyota glass.

My turn. A stone or something hit just right, above the passenger wiper arm. The initial hit was a mark then it went to a vertical crack down to the bottom and up a few inches. It's now heading horizontal and grows with each heating and cooling cycle. I was thinking of paying the extra for the OEM glass (for the water repellant feature) but after reading this thread I'll just take my chances with aftermarket.
I'm surprised for the area I'm in I hear stones all the time but I've only had one windshield replaced in the past. It was major because a chunk of ice came off a tractor trailer at night and caught dead center. The windshield held but talk about an explosion that scared the s--- out of us. I've had another that got a "star" mark that was caught in time and repaired. The repair held for 10 years until I sold it.

I've had 4 cracked windshields.
Two times in my Mitsubishi Eclipse I had cracked windshields, both times from following big semi-trucks to closely.
The third time was in my Tacoma Pre-Runner whereby I wasn't near a @)#(# damn thing, and it just went CRACK!
The fourth time was in my Tacoma again, but this time due to a head-on collision on the freeway. Apparently getting run into head-on by a Chevy Silverado at 55mph has the potential to crack the windshield.
Oh and um....when I was a kid...I kind of....um....well...I poured hot water on the window of my mom's frozen over Camry. Whoops...Made a pretty nifty sound though :biggrin2:

I have had several rock chips on my windshield, but have had them fixed to keep from spreading.
I haven't seen anyone mention this, but if you have full coverage insurance 95% of the insurance companies will pay free of charge with no deductible to have your rock chips repaired up to 3 times a year (if I remember correctly). It doesn't increase your rates, it's just one of those free service they have. As an undergrad I worked at a carwash and use to fix glass chips there.
I was driving down the street about a week ago, had a rock thrown into my windshield, drove straight to the nearest glass shop and had them fix it through my insurance. Saved 50$ and helluva lot cheaper than having the chip spread into a crack.
