You've been recalled (Gas pedal modification by the dealer)

They trimmed my pedal, but also apparently had to pull carpet out from center console because it is roughled now. There appear to be some new staples to hold the top of the carpet down against the firewall too, but it has a tab that is not holding. If I had to judge, I'd say it is more dangerouos now, but don't consider the before or after a real threat. They left my old worn out carpet mats alone.

Had my 4Runner in to the dealer for state inspection today.
Told the service writer not to replace my Toyota OEM All Weather Mat (circa 2004) with a thinner POS mat.
They trimmed the pedal and did not replace my mat.

took mine in just the other day. they trimmed the gas peddle a little. cut the corner of my mat. i cant even tell they did anything unless you look at it.

ClockWork, I did the exact same thing...declined the recall and told them I'll keep my floor mats. There's nothing wrong with our 4Runners people...just a federal department asking Toyota to recall all vehicles to be on the safe side.

Yep, I have had absolutely no problem with my mats or pedal. I like it the way it is.

My understanding is the 4Runner floormat recall was not triggered by the Feds, but instead was Toyota's own idea. Regarding the unsolicited political statement, we don't need to wait to see what things will be like under Obamacare; the program is already in place in Massachussettes under Romnicare.

There has not been one proven stuck gas pedal on a Japanese made Toyota. (4Runner, Land Cruiser, and FJ)

That says plenty for me considering we own 2 of those.

I have the Weathertech liners over my stock mats so this isn't a concern, and after seeing how they "fixed" the same thing on my father's Tundra, I would decline regardless. I got an update about this in the mail last week.

Anyone got a pic of the replacement mats? I have the grey all weathers that I bought in 2004. The drivers side actually has a hole in it now so two (2) new free ones don't sound too bad unless they really are pieces of sh*t like most are making them out to be.

Ebay has new factory ones BTW for the 4th Gen. I would hope this is what Toyota would give us as the replacement.

had my 2004 sport recall done yesterday and repair slip stated they adjusted gas pedal. didnt notice anything different !! and NO new floormats for the runner either

I had no intention of getting recall done, but had same hole in my all-weather mats. Thought it might be worth it just to get new mats. But new mats are at the discresion of the dealer, and mine were not replaced. Their new mats would probably last no longer than the old ones anyway, so got some lifetime guaranteed digitally molded new ones from the net.

BTW, they hardly touched the gas pedal. What a waste of time.

Took my 07 in for service. Service guy says fix is required. I say no. He say's mandatory unless I sign release. I say do you want to work on my truck? he says yes, I say good no repair to my gas pedal. he says ok.

Just the way it is everywhere in the USA.

Safety recalls are mandatory unless the person who owns the vehicle signs a release.

Also a release must be signed everytime you have them work on the vehicle.

I had mine in for a tranny service and alignment and they asked if I wanted them to perform the recall.. I asked what they would do and the service rep said they were instructed to "shave" the underside of the accelerator pedal so it doesn't get stuck on the floor mat. I told him, "I have it to the floor all the time and its never gotten stuck"! Don't have it done... worthless IMO.

I just had mine serviced.

The ONLY reason I took it in was because my 5yo Toyota winter mats had a hole in it. And the warranty gave me new mats. They are a LOT thinner then the old ones..but they at least they don't have any holes. I'm happy.
