You've been recalled (Gas pedal modification by the dealer)

A presenter at a conference I attended last year who is a well-known expert in the field was pretty convinced that the issue was indeed related to tin whiskers. I wasn't presented with the evidence though I'm not buying the floor mat story.

I just received another recall notice for my gas pedal. I have aftermarket all weather mats and have no interest in having Toyota hack off part of my gas pedal. I think the problem lies elsewhere.

Just had my wife take our 4runner to the dealership to calibrate the tpms since we replaced a bad one. Have to do this at the dealership. She came back with the gas pedal hacked off and a quote for almost $2000 in required/recommended maintenance!!! Now you know why I try to avoid dealerships!!!

I had mine done a little while ago at the dealer. They nipped off the bottom corners of the throttle pedal for no charge. What a waste of time and money for mankind. I didn't have to pay for this but in the long run someone (our offspring and ultimately us) will.

Had this done as well. The tech had suggested new mats but service manager declined his request. Overall a good dealer that doesnt pressure you into more services.

I just had mine done yesterday as well. They said I could postpone it if I wanted to , but I told them to go ahead and do it. I don't notice any difference in the feel of the pedal. My aftermarket mats are locked in and trimmed away in this area anyway.

Given the price of used Toyotas, that's going to be a hard case to win, IMHO.

NASA could not find anything wrong with the vehicles. What a mess. Hopefully resolved. Billions to correct a problem with a floor mat and an gas pedal.

In the original crash here in San Diego I still wonder why he could not put the car in neutral? A shame really.

anyone's FLOORING modified for accelerator recall?

Just found this in my service history (for previous owner):

4/27/11 90L CAMPAIGN ~|~PERFORM 90L CAMPAIGN ~|~CAMPAIGN COMPLETED ~|~PERFORMED ACCEL PEDAL & FLOOR SURFACE MODIFICATION, REMOVE INTERIOR PANELS PULL BACK CARPET REMOVE SOUND DEADENING MATERIAL WHEN APPLICABLE, UPDATE ECU WHEN APPLICABLE,INSTALL FLOOR MATS WHEN APPLICABLE, INSTALLED TIBIA PAD & STOPPER, REINSTALL PANELS & C

So I guess they didn't merely shorten the gas pedal -- they *may* have also removed some of the carpet underlayment, and/or insulation / sound-proofing against the fire-wall.
Is anyone aware of this being done to your car, and did you notice any difference?

Of course, it's to cover their a$$es since the dealership was the one to put in recalled mats from another vehicle into the Lexus that crashed and killed 4 people. OOPS!

The accelerator pedal recall had already been done on my 07 when I bought it. I found an uncut accelerator pedal on eBay and put it on. That 1 1/4" makes a difference to my foot. I talked to the dealer about it and he said once they perform the recall on the vehicle it will never show up again on their computers. I also still have the original OEM mats that they stole from everybody too! I pull them out when I go the dealer and put in the carpets.

The only recall that should have been performed is that the brake pedal is too close to the accelerator pedal. But they did a software fix for that....

I use aftermarket WeatherTech mats and have denied the factory recall every single time. My 4Runner still has its original pedal, and I plan to keep it that way.
