Zombie Truck 2.0 MPAV Build!

Switching to the poly bushing (LCA), definitely helped a lot with my hard brake shakes, steering is a lot tighter also.

Only problem I have been having now with them is getting the squeaks in the bushings in turns going over curbs ect. Need to find/do a zerk lube system to them.

Did you grease the bushing washers and the sides of the bushings with the supplied grease? I did that because I ran into a similar issue with my UCAs where I forgot to lube the washers and sides of the bushing that contacted it.

Sure did to the point that it was uzzing out when sliding them in. They even seeped out when installed after driving( the excess).

Difference I see with the bushings compared to my Camburgs (greaseable),
is the Camburg bushings have small line groves in them the long direction that held pre greasing before installing.

Fix might be, pulling them back out and making groves in them, then drill, tap the arms for a zerks fitting. Might be something I look at doing when going up to 35s and getting another alignment.

What about the sides of the bushing that meet the washers? I used the left over grease to slather it there as that will be the most likely cause of squeaking.

Also I know it's a bit of a stupid question, but did you torque the LCA bolts to the 100ft.lbs the factory calls for? (I actually went with 120ft.lbs myself...)?

I'm still not entirely sure what to do with my old LCAs and cam bolts lol.

Excessively greased all contact points. Seeing as the OEM style has holes in it for movement/flexing, and these don't, figured it needed all the help it can get as I assume it would want to flex also in a way.

Mine is a creak sound than a squeak. I figured it might be possibly my rack, as it is the only part not replaced in conjunction. No leaks at all so ruled that out.

Did recently go back in and re torqued them, little over also. It lessened the amount of creaking it does. Mine have been in for about a yr now, and I used the Energy Suspension bushings if this makes a difference. IDK.

If you can think of any other places for this sound is coming from, I'm open to suggestions. Less me jacking it up and using pry bars to duplicate the sound there for confirmation, been to busy to try yet, but next on my list.

Edit... Maybe get a set of poly bushings and rebuild them and sell them to another member.

So just dropped the 4Runner off at the dealer tonight, will have to go over the damage with the auditor tomorrow and see what will end up being done. From the rough look over I did, the spindle looks to be what took the brunt of the impact; so I might be lucky there...

damn! Where's all the hella flush memes guys?

Seriously hope it's all just bolted on damage and nothing more serious though, goodluck man.

Did you figure out what happened?

I heard over the scanner yesterday...unconscious at the local Toyota Dealership, hope that was not you after talking to the insurance adjuster.

Adjuster will be here tomorrow, took a quick look at the end of the day...

Looks like:

-Spindle
-UCA
-Possibly LCA?
-Steering Rack has play

But I imagine there's other stuff that will pop up.

Wow, sounds like a good time to go long travel with some steering knuckle gussets.

Wait, did you already have knuckle gussets?

No they were't gusseted and the main reason I am doing this through insurance is because I'm running low on usable funds and need my 4Runner on the road again. The rental fees are gonna bleed me on this (not once did any agent mention in the 7yrs I've had full coverage on the vehicle that I don't have rental coverage, rather annoyed with Allstate about that at the moment).

I do want to go long travel and gusset the spindles, but it's not something I can afford to do both time wise and financially since the 4Runner is my only vehicle and I don't want to take up the dealership's time with my vehicle more than I have to.

Too bad your on the wrong-coast. If you were local, I would just give you the keys to one of my other cars.
Not sure what the rental car landscape is like in your area, but I remember renting economy cars in vegas for $20/day.

EDIT: looks like cheapest is $34/day from Enterprise.

I appreciate the offer. :) Yeah, I need to rent for another week... getting parts ordered.

So far I went over things with the adjuster and we're gonna try the following first:

-New Steering Rack with Tie-Rods
-New UCAs (I may go with another type if I can find a set that are adjustable on the vehicle and can get me into 5~6 degrees caster and 0 degrees camber without issue... If not I'll get SPCs again)
-New Steering Knuckle

We talked about the wheel bearing and LCAs, at this point neither seem damaged, but if the vehicle won't align after the new parts and/or the bearing goes out they'll cover it, so I got a check for $2600 and I'm working on getting parts. I'm hoping I can get this all taken care of by next Sunday because after that the rental is really gonna start hurting me.

Related, but not! Question onLR UCA adjustment. On T120 here Alignment Specs - with 3" lift - Toyota 120 Platforms Forum
You mention moving your UCA cams to the E setting instead on D. Apparently I am looking at it all backwards. Wouldn't we move to the C setting to get the wheel moved forwards? Are the instructions same as always? http://www.spcalignment.com/instructions/25480-INS_WEB.pdf

Im on D now and rub slightly at times on the cab side of wheel well, putting in updated joints this weeeknd and looking to make sure I am doing it right. So go to E and not C?

Good catch, I must have read the picture wrong; they are at the "B" setting at the moment.

Great, so I haven't lost my mind. I read a lot of pages over on Tacoma world and they all mention C setting to move wheels forward. But I think they may be looking backwards too. Can always depend on your knowledge, thank you!

Maybe a good time to do the spindle gusset.
Those things look almost flimsy. I bet you straightened that sucker out.

Was thinking I could do a cardboard tracing/location of my SPC UCA to check against yours if you think that would help tell if anything is twisted.
Hope its not the upper strut mount.
Let me know, also more than happy to have a co-pilot Sunday.

Bummer what happened, but at least it seems the adjuster is being fair. Maybe you even come out a little ahead on the deal since I assume you get the parts discounted and labor is free.

I hear the rack sucks to replace on these. Have you done one in the past?

Not on a 4Runner, least not that I remember...
BackOff

I'm thinking about gusseting them, these gussets seem to be about $63 on Total Chaos's website; they don't specify is it's a pair though. The issue is going to be if I can weld then on while they are installed because I don't want to take apart the other side Also if I can get time to weld them on.

It's gonna beer in the $700~800 range for the rental until next Sunday (next Saturday I have off and would be the time I could get the job done, it's about 6hrs of labor not including alignment.)

For $700 plus I'd find a beater car for $500 and rock it while doing everything on the 4runner. Then ditch it, or keep it for backup.

Sent from the drivers seat of my 05 4runner.
