Everyone knows the 5th gens don't do well with big heavy tires but everyone wants to be an overlander!

I have done it so many ways with so many sets of tires. 265/70/17's, 285's 33x12.5x17's, street ply, 8 ply, 10 ply.

The set up I have is hands down my favorite and I don't have to sacrifice almost anything.

Current set up:

Wheels: Gear Alloy Manifold 17 inch with a -12 backspacing (key for the look)
Tires: Falken Wildpeak AT P285/70/17

Only running a 2.5 inch front lift with a 1.5 in the rear. Zero issues with rubbing.

Love the because they are lite but still off road capable! Keeps the truck from being a tank!

My 4Runner is with the dealership. The 4Runner was already lifted and the tires that are installed are Toyo R/T Open Country 33x12.50R20LT. I have been having issues with the steering wheel shaking badly, and the dealership was informed by the company who did the lift, etc. that the 10 ply tires are the cause. The dealership is going to switch out the tires and gave examples of styles: Falken Wildpeak AT, Falken Wildpeak MT, or Nitto Trail Grappler AT.

Have you had any issues with the steering wheel shacking on the Falken?

hey, I see you have the 9"/-38 wheels and 295's. what did you have to do to get that all to fit? Are the -38 wheels harder to fit than the -10s?

I had 1.25" spacers on my 17x8.5 -10s and the fitment of 17x8.5 -10 with 1.25" spacers is almost the same as 17x9 -38 so I didn't need to do a whole lot. If I didn't upsize to a 295 M/T tire and stayed with my 285 KO2s, I probably couldve gotten away with no additional cutting or trimming at all.

17x9 -38 and 295 M/Ts aren't that hard to fit as long as you have aftermarket UCAs and a good amount of caster.

What I've done so far:
- Lots of front bumper trimming and fender liner relocation
- Very aggressive BMC
- Trimmed black fender end cap and bent the metal tab behind it

What I still need to do:
- Upgrade bump stops: Found out after my last trip my tire is hitting the top of my fender at full articulation
- Upgrade to aftermarket UCAs: Only have 2 degrees caster, need more because the tire is rubbing the inside of my fender. You might not need to trim the black fender cap or bend the metal tab if you already have UCAs and lots of caster

Honestly, if you do all this, you could probably go even bigger than 295s and get away with it.

10 ply tires have nothing to do with the shaking. Balancing is usually the issue on any tire. Occasionally I think it is a wheel problem. 4Runners are very finicky when it comes to balancing. They have to be done almost perfect. Get a road force balance and make sure the people balancing them know what they are doing.

I’m having issue with my Pro after adding new Falkens 10ply. My tire guy said it should not matter being a 10ply. No issue before I removed my Pro wheels and tires. I’m taking it back in to my tire guy. I stayed with stock size tires but he is going to put another new set of tires on the front. When I hit about 50 or 55 wheel shakes just a little bit it will not go straight. Soon as I leave go of the wheel it want to pull to the right. I deal with the same tire place for years. Not worried he will get it corrected. Just not sure if it is the wheel and tire is not balanced or if I have a bad tire on the front. My other Pro wheels and tires no issue.

Iím having the rubbing issue here as well. Just put 1.25Ē spacers on and have 285ís. Are you saying to get an alignment with max caster (I have aftermarket ucas) and a little trimming up front and I should be good?

You should be good. I ran 1.25" spacers on 17x8.5 -10 with 285s on stock UCAs and only 2 degrees of caster and did not have any issues with the tire rubbing the plastic fender, only the body mount. How much caster are you currently running?

for the record, I haven't been able to get a single response from this company via their website, email, or instagram in over a week. Just asking about basic fitment before I purchase. They are very active on their instagram, posting marketing photos constantly, but have yet to respond to either comments or messages asking basic questions. Doesn't exactly instill confidence about buying their product. Also, one of their main "influencers" (guy that owns the above white 4runner) posted a video today showing that he runs spacers to get the stance width I wanted, for whatever that's worth.

Any 5th gens on here running the new(ish) Kenda Klever 35x10.5x17? Good reviews so far, plus Walmart has them for like $750 out the door after tax and some Tacoma guys seem to like them.

Would love to see some pictures if anyone has them.
