...I am picking up the exact 4Runner I want tomorrow (Friday).

Thanks to everyone who has posted on here over those 15 months, as every little tidbit - from mod discussions to purchasing advice to technical discussions - played a role in my final decision.

You guys are a tremendous resource and a great asset for 4Runner enthusiasts. And in 24 hours, I can be included in the group of 4Runner "owners".

New 4Runner

My 4Runner is Salsa Red and I have had it for a month now. After 5 pickups in a row (I was a high mileaage driver, each truck had 160,000 to 185,000 miles on ir.) I can't imagine ever going back to a truck. I had the original tires removed immediatly and Mich. tires put on. Trade your tires in on better ones while they are brand new on better ones. The difference in ride is great.

Wow. 18 months. I walked into the dealership looking for an old Subaru for my son...came out a 4Runner owner. I HAD thought about it and did a little research but not 18 month's worth. Congrats and get excited!

Yep. 2005 Impreza with 70K. NO WRX. NO STI. Just a plain old 4 door Impreza. I told him if there was going to ba a WRX in the driveway it would be mine! Back to the OP...what did you research for 18 months? Please tell a little more detail like A) Did you compare to other SUVs B) Did you only do an in depth learning on the 4Runner? 18 months is a long time.

It snowed and I was all liked "hey this effin g35 aint cuttin it" so I looked around the interwebs for a solid day at work, found my white 08 limited v8 and went to the dealership that night and picked it up.

Congrats. I probably did more research before buying the 4R than any other vehicle I've ever purchased, but it was probably closer to 18 hours than 18 months. You are a patient person, nothing wrong with that. The last 2 vehicles I bought for myself (04 Dodge Ram and 00 Dodge Ram) were drive-by's. I cruised by the dealership in my Jeep Wrangler and spotted the 00 Ram on the lot - 3 hours later I owned it. I went back to the dealer a few years later to pickup a replacement sunglasses holder from the parts department and my 00 Ram never made it back home. Instead, I was in a new 04. Never regretted either of those purchases either.

Funny, I am like some of you, I remember taking my dodge Dakota to the dealer to grab some wipers... left with a Cherokee... :')

WTF...ya only live once right, or something like that.

Not the best picture, but it won't be the last!

Already ordered Weathertech liners, LED lights, and stubby antenna. Remote start is on the way to the dealer for install later this week.

Ordering black nerf bars (and rooftop cargo basket?) tonight, and taking it to get the windows tinted tomorrow or Wednesday.

Then I'll move on to the Toytec spacers to even out the stance.

Long term plan:

1) BFG T/A KOs with either Black/Red Five:AD X5:F wheels *OR* ATX Assault Wheels

2) Paint most of the chrome trim either Salsa Red Pearl or Flat Black

Sorry about the crappiness of the pic in the previous post. I'll work on getting a better one.

One other thing - I spent 18 months researching because I was "heavily encouraged" by my beautiful wife to wait for a Toyota financing deal. It never happened. But we ended up saving and saving and saving over that time. Then my son was born earlier this month, and I just said "screw it".

And, at one point last year, I took some money out of the 4Runner account to buy a motorcycle.

So, that all played into the 18 month wait!

With the chrome, I say go Matte black. I did all of mine matte black and it looks great (still debating on the door handles, matte black or order canadian model which are color matched).
