1000$ to spend!

Hey all!

I got ,1kUS to spend on my truck!
Can't decide driving me nuts.

I have 5100+ OME spring lift, snorkel, ecu tuning, half ass performance exhaust, 33" hight equal tires. 5th gen calipers, half ass bluetooth streaming from phone, welded recovery front bumper d-shackles.
What would you get next, or replace what i got?

What do you use the truck for?

If off roading, I highly recommend sliders.

If camping, my favorite thing I have added is a 12v fridge.

I like wheeling it, so sliders is an option! So far i have stock side steps that help to limit salt corrosion during winter on rockers and doors. It's a DD for me too. I could spray more oil instead of side steps and get sliders! What else? Rear locker, front metal bumper with winch(wife will notice and kill me).

Ah man I’m jealous lol. If it were me I would get the Victory flush steel bumper with winch. doesn’t stand out like a full bumper, maybe you could pull it off with her? Could save a little and not get it powder coated and be within that price range, or get a cheap winch. I definitely want one. Second I would look at a full Prinsu rack, very nice! Victory’s are nice racks too.

Sliders are an awesome choice as well. Tough choice. The picture shows the trifecta lol.

ATRAC does fairly well, so I would personally have a locker way lower on the list than some other things.

I have been amazed where guys with a minimal lift with tires, sliders, and skids have gotten their rigs. Not as cool looking at bumpers and such, but absolutely necessary if you are wheeling. I have had friends go out without sliders and really mess up their rocker panels, which is an expensive repair! You can trim a bumper and if you are eventually replacing it, who cares about some scrapes. That isn't the case with rocker panels. I can also tell you that I have used my sliders A LOT, while my winch has seen far less use. Sliders also give you a place to use a hi-lift, which you can use as a winch if needed.

Also second the idea of a rack. Prisnu design seems great. They weren't around when I got my Baja Rack otherwise I would have likely gone that direction. A rack with a light bar is a very nice addition. When I go out my rack is always loaded up with firewood, recovery gear (lives in a box bolted to the rack) and various camping supplies. The below photo is how my truck pretty much always looks when I go out. I don't know what I would do without a rack!

Armor....you want to protect your asset. I would say unless you are only doing some "light" off-roading this is a necessity. At a minimum you need to be able to protect your oil pan and rocker panels. Ideally armoring up everything is the best option, but expensive.

As far as roof rack, I would go Victory 4x4 over Prinsu. There are multiple write-up that the Victory is superior in quality of the Prinsu. I think this is a good upgrade since it offers a lot of functionality to the rig.

I would advise AGAINST a CAI... waste of money when you can just drop in a filter from aFe or another DRY filter brand and get extremely similar results. The stock box is pretty efficient to start.

There are a lot of ways to spend $1,000, but it seems our imagination is limited to what your wife can see! :heh:
 
The factory intake is a CAI. I can't fathom how people would spend $500 on something that can be made from tupperware and parts from the home depot plumbing section.

In all seriousness, like others have said, sliders and skids will protect your critical areas. Having oil pans, trans pan, tcase, etc covered will keep them safe and give you peace of mind. Another thing might be frame undercoating. Not sure how the weather is in Mississauga, so I may be stereotyping all Canada as cold and snowy, but frame rust will kill the 4runner if not treated properly. Any outstanding maintenance item might be a good expenditure also.

I must confess I have always been confused by the cold air intake conversion. Unless I am misunderstanding something, what I have seen as CAI's are in fact simply removing a section of the intake system and having the filter system sitting out in the hot air under the hood. In other words, converting a CAI into a HAI.
 
I would do the front 3 skid plates, and sliders. Camping gear like a fridge if you like doing that, or build a cargo drawer system/sleeping platform.

Bumpers are a little overrated IMO unless you wheel by yourself, or nobody in your group has a winch.

Roof racks are getting pretty good nowadays and are relatively cheap now so if you need more room this is a good option. Having said this I've removed my roof rack and could care less about the added storage room for what I do.

A rear locker works amazing sometimes, but I've gotten by with 33's or 35's and open diffs for a few years. The ATRAC system is nice, but when it's failed to get me up something I've always had a buddy with a winch.

Seems like a good deal! You can definitely get some affordable sliders out there that do their job great. Ultimately they are a metal tube welded (or bolted) to the truck, so it isn't rocket science.

At the end of the day the most important part is you really think about how YOU use the truck and build around that. That way you can maximize your money and the truck will be perfectly suited for what you do.

If your off roading is just established dirt roads with no big rocks or technical aspects then sliders and armor won't be necessary. I would just recommend those well before you consider things like lockers.
 
Another vote for sliders. The RSG sliders are excellent. Get them, paint them yourself, and have another 200+$ left over. If your really feeling spendy, get the RSG sliders, a Rola Vortex, and the 4x4 Innovations mounting brackets.

Damn it, your making me realize how much I've spent on my rig this year...
