120V AC power outlet

I had a feeling someone would ask this. It's an old Ham trick to protect the equipment from ground-fault currents on devices directly connected to the battery (additional safety or overkill if you prefer). In fact, many ham radios these days come with fuses on both sides right from the factory.

Personally, I'm not 100% convinced it's really an issue, but this is how it's recommended so I pass it along in case it will help or protect someone else.

An example of the problem:
If a negative lead were to fail (corrosion around a battery can take its toll as just one example), the starter current or current from other high current devices (depending on where the failure is) can flow through the protected device’s negative power lead. Fusing the negative lead protects the device from this.

Awesome- I would have never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. Seems like a long shot, but a possibility. Thanks for the explanation!:thumb3:

Does anyone know the part number for the front console 120vac power plug?

I plan to install a pure sine wave inverter in the front console and was thinking of wiring it to the factory location (i currently have a blank plate there now).

120W is not that much, but all depends what you want to run. The stock one in the 4R is 400W max (or so it says). Some laptops pull 90+W's! Just think about what you are going to be running.

I only plan to use it to charge camera batteries so 120W will be more then enough. I was looking for the smallest (pure sine) one i could fine. I ran a 20 amp DC circuit into the center console (from the battery) so If i want to go bigger i can later. I may buy a bigger one later and stick it under the passenger seat but for now I only need the small one. Thanks.
