17" SR5 wheel vs 17" FJ Cruiser wheel

Does anyone know if the specs (width, backspacing, offset) is the same for the 2010 SR5 wheels and the 17" six-spoke FJ Cruiser wheel?

I know that the FJ cruiser wheel has a more aggressive offset than the stock wheels on the 4th gen, so it "pushes" the wheels out 15mm and gives the 4th gen a more aggressive stance.

Is the same true for the 5th gen? Would the FJ Cruiser wheels give the 5th gen a more aggressive stance too?

All I know is the 17" FJ wheel is 7.5" wide, and the 17" 4R (SR5) wheel is 7" wide.

So if the offset is the same between the two wheels, then I guess the FJ wheel would be 1/4" further on both the inside and outside edges, right (1/2" divided both sides)?

Yeah, I read that entire thread earlier today. I still couldn't find the info I trying to find...

Seriously?

You asked:

From the thread I linked:
factory backspacing is 4.5 inches. Don't go bigger then 4.75(like the fj wheels) or you will need spacers.

It's going to be about 3/4 inch wider then what my truck is running now with the 1.25 the spidertrax spacers. 9 inch wide Chamber rim makes it a 2 inch wider rim minus the 1.25 spacer and the same backspacing of 4.5 inches as stock= 3/4" wider.

From just those two posts by Harper7, I know the stock 2010 SR5 rims are 7 inches wide with a backspacing of 4.5 inches, which is a quarter-of-an-inch more than the FJ Cruiser wheels.

Any aftermarket wheel website linked in that thread shows the stock offset as zero.

And then there is this post:

Your search skills are weaksauce.

Weaksauce? That's funny...but it still doesn't answer my question. I saw the post about the backspacing. But what about the offset? I'm not sure how the whole backspacing & offset thing works. Plus add the fact that the wheels are different widths. How does it all go together?

If the FJ wheels are 1/2" wider than the SR5 wheels, and the backspacing is different also (and possibly the offset), then how would I determine if FJ wheels will give a wider stance than the SR5 wheels?

Your mind is like a brick. You didn't even bother looking at the pictures did you? Well I'm done doing your homework for you. Enjoy your obtuseness.

You don't have to be an *******. I did look at the pics. But since the pics don't show the proper angle, there's no way to tell how far out (or in) the wheels are in relation to the fenders.

If you knew the answer to my question, you could have just told me. But I think you don't know, so you come up with this lame crap instead. Thanks for nothing.

:iagree:

If you do not know, google can be your friend in addition to the forum :rockthrow: So I will help you out. Tech Knowledgebase - Wheel Backspacing and Offset

Offset - Distance from the wheel center-line (CL) to the wheel mating surface - greater positive offset moves the tires inward (narrower track)
Backspace - Distance from the inside lip of the wheel to the wheel mating surface
The tricky part is that when a wheel is widened the offset and/or backspace change (actually it is impossible for both of them to remain the same), so upgrading to wider wheels is not as straightforward as "get the same offset and backspace and they will fit." That's why God created The Tire Rack and Discount Tire

Okay, great. Now we are getting somewhere. But I still don't know the offset of each different wheel. And even if I knew the offset, I still don't know how that works with the different wheel widths.

So thanks for the definitions, but I'm still no closer to knowing if the FJ wheels bolted on to a 2010 4Runner would give the vehicle a wider stance than the OEM wheels (and if so, by how much).

Does anyone actually know the answer? It's not a simple question unless you actually know how to calculate it on wheels of different widths.

I'm a pretty "simplistic type" guy so I'll give this a shot Jed..

How about taking a straightedge across the face of each tire and measure back to the point that sits on the actual hub face? The "rear" of the rim as it mounts on the hub.

That may give you the measurment you're looking for, if I understand that's the number you want.

I had to do that recently to try to find out the my Trial rims would fit under some trailer fenders, and it worked out well. After looking at charts and numbers for 15 mins. my head was spinning

Good luck, Pat

That's a really good idea, but I don't have access to the SR5 wheels. I only have the FJ wheels. Also, wouldn't I need to do that measurement on wheels without tires mounted on them? Otherwise I'd have a hard time getting a straight edge to touch the rim of the wheel with the tire in the way. The different tires would throw off my measurement, no?

Oh well....I thought maybe someone would know how to calculate the difference, but I see now that this is a complicated question. I'll figure it out somehow....

While using the search function, I found a few people who have said that the SR5 wheels on the 2010 4Runner are actually 7.5" wide. Others claim that they are 7" wide. Does anyone know for sure?

Okay, just to answer my own question, here is what I found from a Toyota PDF on the 2010 4Runner:

SR5: 17x7
Trail: 17x7.5
Limited: 20x7.5

That's weird because I thought I've read many times that the 20-inch Limited wheels were 7 inches wide. It's also surprising to me that they would make the SR5 wheels more narrow than the others.

Does anyone have proof that the 2010+ SR5 wheels are 7" wide? I did read all related threads but didn't see an actual picture (I know Harper took one of the Limited wheel) or official Toyota documentation. I'm only skeptic because the 4th gen SR5 wheels are 7.5" according to all the eBay posts and I've always been under the impression that the 2010+ SR5 and TE wheels are 7.5" and Limited is 7".
SR5 wheels are 7 inches wide . I had a set for awhile. You can see right on the back 17x7J should be cast in the wheel.

I think the FJ Wheels are the same backspacing, offset and size as the Trail Edition Wheels just a different wheel design.
