Well. I got my lift installed. I'm very disappointed. The rear went in smooth. However the front went easy too high. I put the shock on the second setting from the bottom with stock shock. The front gained about 3.25''. Over an inch hu higher than the rear and it rides like crap.

Is there any wat I can set The coil perch to the lowest setting without removing the strut assembly and compressing the springs???

With hand tools and a rental spring compressor its a pain in there ass.
I'm also getting driveshaft vibes due to this.

Are the springs seated correctly? That seems like a lot for stock springs. Are the springs that you have definitely stock?

Yes they are. I am going to redo the front today. I'm sure i have the spring perch upside down. There are really no directions how to install the perch. It was reasonable to me that the perch does not go over the adjustment ring on the shock. But I guess it does. I'm too imbarrased to post the current lift picture. Ill post tonight. After its fixed.

Has to come back apart unfortunately. You're right it is a PITA.

That perch is upside down bud.

Can we get some hub to fender measurements? I am debating 906s or other options.

The 906s in the rear gave me exactly 2" of lift on my 2002 4WD. Hub to fender on the rear measure 22" on mine. It was 20" stock.

On the front it's 21.5" and was 19.5" stock.

Well. Here is the end result. Lowest setting on the front. With the perch sitting correctly. Too much rake. Ill let the rear settle for a month till ill level it out. Ideally I'd like a .5" rear rake.

Initially I had it on the 3rd notch. but it still kind of look .5'' higher up front.

I will probably put it at the 2nd notch after the rear settles a bit. With he spring decompressed at the current setting its not too bad. I can probably change the setting 20 minutes per side including jacking up the truck.

The pain was messing around with the spring compressor. With hands tools its a killer.

As for handling... It could be better. It seems off balance because the rear is way more stiffer than the front. Plus the 2.5'' rear rake caused a lot of swaying.

Hey Speedy do you have the video of the install? That'd be super helpful so I can see what I'm actually getting into for future reference.

Well good on ya for getting it done yourself. Dewalt impacts are a good investment :)

I have a dewalt impact. But when the spring is that tensioned. It would not budge. I'd need about 350ftlbs.

When i was working in shops. This would probably take a bit over an hour. Heck even floor jacking each corner and hand torquing on and off each lug but takes time. But it is what it is. I'm glad i took the time to get it done today. If i didn't I'd be at work dwelli g on it.

The rear will settle pretty quickly. My 890s settled about 3/8" in 500 miles. Don't be too embarrassed about installing the spring perch upside down. On one of my previous Tacomas, I did the very same thing. I was shooting for 1.75" of lift and ended up with over 4". Had to tear it all back down and correct it.

Well, my little 110 ft/lb Dewalt Impact did ok on mine, although in my install video I recommend using a ratchet and not impact tools

As for the video, I have it about 75% edited together. It's taking a bit of time as it's about 50 or 60 separate clips I have to put together in a meaningful way to make it a quality instructional video. I'm hoping to finish up the editing tonight and should have it up on Youtube in the next couple of days. I'll be sure to link back to it here.

Great write up Speedy!

This is pretty much exactly the information I have been looking for in my research for a 2" (mid-lift).

I have a 2002 as well sitting on 265/75/16 BFG KO2s. I came to the same conclusion concerning wanting a mild, sub 3" lift. There are tons of different 3" lift kits and combinations. It seems that there is less overall talk and discussion about 2" lifts.

I have one question though. I think I am pretty much sold on this route as other top-shelf suspension options like Icon, King, etc. etc. seem to be a bit out of my budget at the moment. This set up seems fairly reasonable and straight forward.

Do you think, or has anyone used this set up, with an aftermarket front bumper, like a Shrockworks front bumper? Would the Tundra TRD coils, ( Tundra TRD Front Coils P/N 48131-AF100 Yellow/Yellow and 48131-AF090 Yellow/Blue), be able to handle the extra weight of the aftermarket front bumper?

If so, this set up has made my short list. Thanks again for documenting your install and posting detailed information that makes it easier for the next guy.

It's ALIIIIVVVVEEEE....

Bringing this thread to life so I can ask;

With this exact setup, did you have any issues with cv boots tearing, or driveshaft length?

Hope to hear a reply

EDIT: watched the video, got my answer

Thanks Speedy,

After reading this thread and watching your Youtube how to video I ordered he exact same setup for my 2002 Badlands Edition. The ride is fantastic. No issues with CV boots yet but will check after a day of wheeling this weekend.

I put a 1.75 lift on my 4 runner and within days the factory CVs started throwing grease and about 3 months later the passenger side CV boot came apart. Mine is a 96 with 225k miles on it.

FYI
