2006 4Runner Limited - TRD tire size ?

Hi, been a member around here for a while, but I have only come looking when I needed to figure out something on the wife's 4Runner.

The time has come, my son will be soon turning 16 and he want's my wife's 4Runner over my 1998 Land Cruiser, which is OK cause love my LC.

In order to make it more his, we're planning on updating the wheels/tires. I've found a set of 2019 TRD wheels to help make it more manly and less mom.

What is the best tire size for a 17" 7.5" wide wheel? Stock suspension, no lift. If we do a lift, it will be a mild lift. We're stepping back from the stock 18" to a 17", so I'm a little lost....

Stock tire size for a 4th gen is 265/65r17 on a 7.5” wide rim.

Without a lift, you might be able to squeeze in a 265/70r17. Someone on here has probably done it.

I'm interested too. I was able to fix 265/70/17 on stock SR4 rims for my 2005. It is not lifted and doesn't rub. I did remove the front mud flaps and they probably would have rubbed if I kept the flaps. But you do have to look at the type of tire you use. My tires are Kumho all-terrain. I believe some of the mud tires like the KO2 in that same size are larger in diameter and could rub. I think the 5th gen TRD rims are a different offset so that may also affect what size you can fit.

Not sure if you mean 2019 TRD Off-Road rims (7.5 inch width) or do you mean 2019 TRD PRO rims (7 inch width). Tire choice should be a reflection of what the 4Runner will be used for (e.g., daily driver, off-roading). Tire size for the 5th Gen 17" rims is 265/70R17.

TRD Off-Road rims. For the most part, it will be street driven. He may eventually get interested in some lite off-road. I appreciate the help.

Yep, those are nice rims. I run those exact same rims for my winter set with 265/70R17 Toyo Observe GSi-5 tires on my 2011 Limited. I then switch back to the 20 inch Limited rims for the summer.

265/70R17 came with that wheel. It's a great wheel (yes, I'm highly biased lol)!

Yes, 265/70r17 is the stock tire size on 5th gens. They must have slightly bigger wheel wells, because 265/65r17 is the stock size for 4th gens.

Assuming the same tire brand and model, the 265/70r17 is about an inch taller than the 265/65r17 (~31.5” vs. ~30.5”).

The 4th gen speedo and odometer are both calibrated for a 265/65r17 (or 265/70r16) tire.

70 series fit just fine, plenty of people have that on this forum, even with no lfit.. I ran stock 5th gen tires on my stock sport wheels (and no lift) for a bit until I moved up to 295/70R17s (post-lift of course) on 5th gen Trail wheels. It was fine.

Finally got the wheels installed. Stuck with the stock 4-gen tire size for the time being. Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires. Now looking to do a minimal lift.

Honestly, you should have went with the 70 series since you’re now thinking of doing a minimal lift...
