Off-topic slightly: Am I the only one that thought the Commanders were cool?:thumb3: Will they do another? I think I am beginning to like the GC but it needs more Ute in it's look but then I thought Thai's G looked cool too so...

I always liked the Commander...it's basically the Jeep answer to the 4Runner in every way. When I compared my 4Runner's dimensions to the Commander, it was within one inch in height, length, and width. It's too bad Jeep is canceling it....

Well, you're not that far off. When Chrysler and Mercedes were still joined, there was a lot of rumor about the Commander being the replacement for the G-wagen. G-wagen sales have always been slow...so, this was a rumor. So, at least on the internet, the Commander and the G were linked at one point.

And yeah, i like the Commander too. I don't know too much about its reliability, but my brother and I testdrove it...and my brother was seriously considering it. He was looking at the Overland 4x4 model with the HEMI...MSRP was $45k, but you could get discounts as much as $10k back then. He ended up buying the FJ Cruiser instead. He just had a baby in March and with an 8 year old daughter, i think that he is a bit regretful that he did not get the Commander. FJ is very nice, but the backseat is tight for a full carseat.

A Commander is cool... Some 32-33's and a TD and I'd be 'in' provided it wasn't the worst piece of junk ever. I know it's no T4R but if it was even sort of good with a TD I'd be there. PLUS you get invited to all the cool Jeep events etc. (I liken the Jeep to a Harley. Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki make better Harley's, they even sound good now. You just don't get the sense of community, coolness or social events.)

I like your brothers choice too, just wish the back windows went down! A six-speed FJC would be sweet but my dog said "NO!" due to the window issue.

I hope the new GC evolves properly and maybe even a Commander. Even if I don't get one it'll do what Jeeps of all years have always done, help guide the market and give it focus. I am convinced Toyota looked at everything including the Commander as they crafted the body on the 5th gen.

Here are some new pics and information on this vehicle.

That is one nice thing about Jeep...their accessories are many and there are off-road stuff that you can buy straight from the showroom floor. Toyota truck accessories can't hold a candle to what Jeep/Mopar offers. I think that the only one that can come close to Jeep is the Land Rover products. Of course, not sure about GC, but for the Wrangler, you can get winches, rock sliders, etc. from Mopar...have it installed on your Jeep and have factory warranty cover it.

Give them time...just take a look at Wrangler accessory list. Prices are not too bad...and guarantee to fit.

Ouch, Edmunds cons on the new 2011 JGC "..exterior design works too hard to look like a crossover..". I gotta hand it to Jeep though, the interior material looks nice with the stitched dash.

I may trade the BMW for one in a year if they fix the howling/whining diffs and implement some quality control. It sure looks like high quality. I had a 06 5.7 Limited and the quality was a joke. The interior looked like a pOS compared to the new one.

Let the haters say whatever they want...this is a 4Runner forum after all.

I think the new body style looks excellent from every angle, which is something I can't say of the 5th gen 4Runner. I'm happy with my 4Runner and have no plans on buying another SUV any time soon, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate this new Jeep. It will be interesting to see how it does as time passes.

Well, just to compare, i checked the prices of rock slider from ARB vs. Mopar for the Jeep Wrangler 2-door (JK) from the same internet vendor.

ARB tube sliders (no step) = $490

Mopar square sliders (no step) = $340

Mopar square sliders (w/ tubular step) = $600

So, as you can see, the Mopar stuff is very competitive vs. aftermarket stuff.

If you buy the Mopar stuff after driving off the lot, then the warranty is 1 year (12k miles). If you get it installed at the time of delivery, then i believe that the warranty is the same as your car warranty (3 years/36k miles). And the nice thing is that you are assured that installation will be easy and has consistent build quality (as opposed to some aftermarket stuff that i have seen).

Not hating on the thing just saying it looks mini-vanish to me. Although, "crossover" as Edmunds put it is probably more appropriate. I just prefer more of the truck look like I feel the 4Runners have to them.

It makes me think more of an Enclave which I often look at as a mini-van. All of this is without seeing one other than pictures of course. A lot of times pictures just don't do a vehicle justice.

You will find the same thin on the Jeep Forums. Bashing the new 4Runner, saying sucks blablabla. Some people are ignorant, closed minded fan bois that bash something beforee they even examine it. When comparing a 4Runner to Grand Cherokee, Jeep has always offered more features, power and innovation. Problem is, the unibody Grand Cherokees just never held up as well, resale tanks and build quality wasnt as good. The NEW Grand Cherokee looks as if they addressed this and they had to. Nobody was buying their JUNK and they had to do a 180 for the company to stay alive. Ive owned ever engine option and every generation of Grand Cherokee. Ive also owned my 00 4Runner and an 08 4Runner. My 2000 has 101,000 miles and is honestly like a new vehicle. If I found a 2000 Grand Cherokee with 101,000 iles the interior would be rattling, the diffs would be howling/whining, power options would mostly be broken and there would be lots of leaks.

I swore off Chrysler and Jeep after my 2006 Hemi Limited. Constant differential rebuilds, power window failures, electronic throttle control failures, cheap interior materials, vibrations, 15mpg, bad ABS module at 250 miles...all this on a $44K MSRP vehicle and the dealer fights you on ANYTHING. Then they put you in a PT Cruiser loaner if it stays overnight. If they can change ALL of this I will be open to the new Grand.

Can you put cross rails on that roof rack? It almost doesn't even look like it has a roof rack at all from the pics.

I use my roof rack all the time for kayaking and skiing, so I can't imagine that Jeep would make a GC that doesn't have cross bars or a way to put them on!

However, are skidplates OPTIONAL as an accessory??!! For an off-road capable vehicle, it should NOT be optional...come on, don't tell me that an Overland 4x4 model does not have skids?! Hmm, are we seeing the Mercedes ML roots here?
