2012 t4r?

Did you see the link I posted? No way toyota goes with a v8, they are (wisely) going to implement direct ingection and turbo chargers. I would bet a lot on a DI twin turbo similar to fords ecoboost found in the new f150. Having a v8 4runner would impact sequia sales and toyota is smarter than that.

I do not think it would impact Seqouia sales at all. Seqouia is to big for me and will not consider the V6 4runner as it is now. GX 460 is to pricey and the nearest dealer is 3 hours from me. I want to buy a new vehicle soon but can not find anything I want.

So toyota will make their 4runner based on what one potential customer wants? There is much more to consider than you thinking the sequia is too big.

I would be very wary of being a first year owner of turbocharged DI technology here in North America. It's had a lot more problems in Europe compared to diesel technology and they have techs with years of experience with it under their belt. That said, you are probably right in terms of what is likely to happen since the JV with Isuzu fizzled out in 2009 and there seems little sign of it recovering. It's just a darned shame when you look at the UK Toyota trucks, all of which are offered with Diesel with very few petrol options (albeit with ridiculous UK price tags) - you would think they could find a way to bring over one of those diesel configurations on the LandCruiser to North America.

A lot of the complaints from members on this forum would be solved "IMO" if TRD would release some performance parts (S/C, Headers, Exhaust, CAI) since the concensus is a lack of a V8.

In 1998 I bought an Ext Cab Tacoma and it had every TRD option available, which was S/C, Headers, Exhaust and Drop-In Intake. The performance rocked...........never a complaint.

I find it mind boggling that TRDs focus is on the FJ Cruiser (no offense to those who own/owned one, but it's a love it or hate it appearance....I personally think it's ugly). I think the other reason TRD is slow to release anything, if they ever do is because all the engine platforms are running different configurations of 4.0L engines.

Toyota/TRD need to standardize the engines on their TRUCK/SUV platforms so that TRD can make start making toys for us!

Off my soapbox! :dammit:

It seriously irks me btw that I am writing this while sat on a train leaving Toronto which is pulled by a new diesel engine which stinks the place out, probably never had to undergo any fuel efficiency emissions assessment and likely kicks out as much pollution as a hundred diesel trucks.

My guess is that they will have the same v6 across the board soon. I'm sure they chose not to put yall's 4.0 in the '11 tacoma for a reason and I'm betting on a whole new engine for the '12 3rd gen. Which would also give the 4runner a new engine.

I understand being weary, but I would argue that VW and audi have been doing a good job with their turbo's for a long time. Also if you guys have seen the articles toyota announced that the new FT-86 will be built in conjunction with subaru and may use the WRX motor. I would say that is a smart partnership for future forced induction development.

That would extremely suck, I hope you're wrong! :cry2:

I don't see Toyota adding the cost and complexity of TTs and using DI as the the sole injection system.

So you say they wont do anything while ford, audi/VW, hyundai, mazda, subaru, and even kia have FI models out? You dont have to be a fan of ford to acknowledge that their ecoboost engines in the edge, tarus, and f150 are impressive.

Am I understanding this correctly? The Tacoma and FJ still use the same 4.0 that was in the 4th gen 4runner? I guess I never paid attention to this before. When I drove a 4th gen 4runner it seemed fine but the 5th gens just seem rougher and noisier to me without any extra power.

Google "carbon buildup" and VW/Audi. There are definitely some issues with direct injection that haven't been totally ironed out.

I don't think the '12 Taco will get anything other than our 1GR. For all practical purposes, the new 1GR was a huge overhaul that brought the 1GR up to the standard of the rest of the R generation engines. Plus, Toyota's Alabama plant supplied the old 1GR to the Taco and the Tundra. The Tundra got the new 1GR for '11, so it stands to reason that the engine line at the Alabama plant will be updated for the new engine soon.

the tacoma has the same old 4.0 however the new fjs and 4runners have the new 4.0

yeah, here's an article about the engine tear down after its torture test.

Had some carbon build up, but given the miles (simulated and actual) I would say it held up alright. The videos are on youtube as well.

They basically ran the engine balls out the whole time. My understanding is that the issue is more related to being stuck in stop and go driving. I'm talking about intake port carbon buildup like such.

Good to know, I have faith in toyota to do things the right way.

why is it that the 4.0 sounds horrible, and the v8 on the gx with same dual VVTI doesnt and is butter smooth and quiet?
