Not that this really applies to the 2012 model, but I did happen to notice that the "windshield wiper de-icer" is standard on the 2011 model (it wasn't even an option on the 2010 SR5).

Let me bring to everyones attention all the issues BMW NA has had with the HPHP (high pressure fuel pump) failures in vehicles with the N54/N55, DI, tt engine. It has been an issue since the 335i was release for the 2007 MY and still continues today. The pump has been redesigned 3 or 4 times and the seals are still failing. From what I have been told they suspect it is due to the petrol in the US yet other manufactures are not having issues.

In regards to the rear window roll down, did you know that there is a plethora of programmable features on the 5th gen, and one of them allows you to link the rear window to the the keyless remote. You hold down the unlock button and the rear window will roll down! just gotta get the dealer to program it that way
The rear window, and every other window too, that's how mine is set. I didn't think there was an option to just control the rear and not the others.

but only on the Limited w/smart key. that option is not available on the SR5 or Trail.
Not exactly, it is available on the SR5, well mine at least.
minor changes if any are whats predicted and since Toyota and Lexus basically follow the same update strategy of refresh after the 3rd year and redesign after the 6th (as others have said).
Some are predicting a few new colors possibly for 2012 from what I've read but that can come at any point and isn't driven by the same factors as redesign. We may see a brown or metallic bronze enter the line up and the silver may go warmer since the classic is a cold silver. I personally am hoping for the metallic bronze in the trail edition for 2012, when I'll be picking up mine. Else I'll have to go silver.
2013 will bring the new refreshed look. Refreshes are usually minor changes to tail and headlight, grill and or possibly bumpers.

Toyota already produces a diesel 4Runner that is sold in Japan (and possibly other countries??), at least the 4th Gen was. Does anyone know if a 5th Gen diesel is sold in Japan?
Therefore if Toyota wanted to import a diesel to the US market, they could, they already have one. Yes, I know, they would have to meet stringent US emissions regs and so on, and yes, they would have to train US Toyota service techs to work on them. So they wouldn't have to create a whole new drivetrain. They already have it.
I am surprised that Toyota hasn't yet introduced a Tundra diesel, given the popularity of the diesel in the big 3 competitor trucks. Someone on this thread claimed that Toyota has now said that is never going to happen. I'm curious about a source for that -- It may be true, but I've never read that.
As some have said, a hybrid of some kind or a turbo charger may be more likely, if anything. Lexus already has a unibody SUV with hybrid technology, and of course there is the Highlander SUV, so they already have the technology built for a SUV. Maybe they will eventually adapt it to the 4Runner, though it's not my cup of tea.

its going to take awhile for Toyota to really go forward with the hybrid technology in vehicles like the Tacoma and 4runner. I personally would love a hybrid 4runner and it will happen, but, you're right, it'll be a case of eventually and not coming soon. The industry as a whole doesn't seem to be maintaining any real momentum with hybrid technology to the public. Instead, they seem to be focused on creating more fuel efficient traditional fuel engines and offering smaller cars (with tiny engines) as options in their line up.
