2014 Entune problems

I just read the 4 pages and my problem is not listed, so here goes.

Took delivery of a 14 SR5 Premium on thursday last week. Has the Entune Premium system. On sunday the Nav would not locate me accurately, had me about 2 miles away. I read the manual and manually calibrated it, worked fine the rest of Sunday. This morning (monday), it was off again, though not 2 miles away, maybe 1 mile away. Did another manual calibration.

Dealer called me today to ask if everything was OK, so I told him about this issue. He wants me to bring it in for them to take a look.

Anyone else have this issue? Anything I can do on my end to avoid the service visit?

As an update - I have had the update installed for a month now. And, so far, I have not had any rebooting issues, and the phone has been connecting without a huge delay. So, make sure you guy the new update, too!

Started experiencing this problem in our new 2014 Limited only has around 2500 miles. Started happening when my wife updated from the Galaxay S3 to the S5. On 2 occasions it rebooted while she is on a call via bluetooth.
I started messing with it and I have been able to get it to reboot every time I go hit the message icon button on the screen.

I've got a 2014 trail with around 1500 miles on it.

I had a iphone 4s, connected on bluetooth, and listened to pandora and podcasts regularly with no problems (miles 2-1100).

Wreck the old phone, get a new iphone 4s, once I connected and downloaded the entune app, the nav system tells me I need to install a software update. After updating the 4runner's software, now my bluetooth flickers in and out every 15-45 seconds or so.

its killing me....

2014 Limited. 3K miles. Started having the reboot issue within the first 2 weeks. Scheduled a service appointment and they downloaded a software update. I confirmed that they did. New Software Version 0101A5 as of 5/30/2014. Less than a month later I started having the issue again. Emailed my service advisor letting her know that the issue is still not resolved. They are suspecting it's my phone or service provider…huh? I have a LG G2 on Sprint.

Following the update my system no longer reads texts. It also seems like the audio isn't right because at times it sounds like one speaker isn't working in the dash. I am a very minimal user of all the bells and whistles as I'm usually only in the car 20 minutes so mostly I just have local radio on. Used Navigation once just after multiple reboots and it couldn't find the address I was looking for.

I have reached out to the General Manager at the dealership. It seems like there needs to be a case made to Toyota Corp. I did report the matter in my survey I received from Toyota Corp.

This is my first Toyota and likely my last. I am very disappointed to have spent so much money and have issues with an integral component of the vehicle and have incredibly poor service/response from the dealership.

Thank you to this forum for all that you do to educate and inform the general public. I will stay tuned to see if anyone posts any possible fixes.

i had the same issue with mine a couple of weeks ago. every time i would get a text message my radio would reboot. to fix this i removed the phone from my bluetooth devices and then went to my phone and deleted any stored info for my truck as a paired device. to start with i just removed it from the truck and that didn't help, had to remove it on both to get it to stop. once that was done i went back in and paired it with my 4runner again and it hasn't rebooted in over 3 weeks now.

the problem exists with both your phone and vehicle. remove all paired device information on your phone for your 4runner. do the same on your radio. power cycle your bluetooth on your phone and re-pair it with your 4runner. worked for me.

while just removing it from your truck might work initially i think this is a larger issue with our phones storing bad data and causes a loop when communicating with the vehicle.

i'm running a samsung galaxy s5 on verizon if anyone is wondering

Thanks USMCASA for the suggestion. I have completely removed my phone from the 4runner and my 4runner from my phone. I am NOT going to repair them for the time being and see what happens.

Additionally, I have contacted the Customer Experience Center and opened a ticket. The representative informed me that the 3.2 Upgrade is only available through the dealers currently as it is not officially released. I will report back with any updates or new information that might helpful to others experiencing this issue.

Hi folks,

I planned to post about this "Entune" issue after I got my truck back from the dealership (appt pending), but then I saw this thread and thought to share some information with you. I've been back and forth with my Toyota dealership and the service mgr finally admitted to me that the problem with the 'entune system' is with it's inherent design flaws. He explained that Toyota has not been able to fix the problem(s) w/ it's "Haled" touchscreen nav system because it is not designed properly from the start. He also gave me the TSB doc., number T-SB-0006-14. He advised that I contact "Toyota Customer Care Corporate" USA, and apologized for the trouble that I'd been having w/ my new 2012 limited.

I called Toyota corp. today (Tues 7/29/14), and spoke w/ a gentleman about my problem. He didn't have a complete solution for me but he asked me if I had the software ver. updated to which I said "yes I did", and went on to say that the ver that they installed was supposed to be the very latest update; number 3.2. Then he explained that this was a mistake, and the dealership should never have installed that ver, as it is only for demonstration purposes in the showroom; not to be used in the customers cars. He told me that the reason is that this 3.2. version isn't completely ready to be used but is still in the development stage. "The one that should have been installed is the 2.2 version" he explained.

So now I'll go back to the dealership and give them my case number that corporate emailed me after our conversation. I plan to post the results here after they're finished with the truck.

"...Emailed my service advisor letting her know that the issue is still not resolved. They are suspecting it's my phone or service provider…huh? I have a LG G2 on Sprint." "...I have reached out to the General Manager at the dealership. It seems like there needs to be a case made to Toyota Corp. I did report the matter in my survey I received from Toyota Corp..."

mcsmom,

Don't let them blame their problematic software on your iphone (or android for that matter 'which I use'). Just show them the 'Toyota generated' tsb number (below) and stay on them until you get this resolved! This is a ten page "Entune update install instructional document" for the Toyota techs so I won't post them all here; you can download them from Toyota's 'TSB' website. Chow!

Big thanks to Rigtec for posting this info. In looking at the sheets of paper they gave you my problem was -Radio reboots with heavy load condition.

I complained so much about it my dealership replaced my radio. Not sure if that will even solve the problem since by the sounds of it they still don't have a solution.

I will keep this thread updated as I find more information as well.

Hi gamester,

I'm happy to learn of where this problem originates; maybe now we can get some straight answers from the dealers! If they installed the same head unit in your truck that they removed then the trouble will likely remain, due to the fact that the problem is in the software's architectural structure; nothing really wrong w/ the hardware. Perhaps you could convince them to give you a voucher for a comparable aftermarket hu. I'm going to try the 2.2 ver download first, before I go there and create an "un-holy" biblical seen. Best to all who are still working to find resolve with these entune issues. Cheers!

Hi USMCASA,

Before taking my truck in for the 2.2 entune software update, I think I will give your suggestion a try since it seems to have worked; what have I got to lose... :playball:

Here is the phone number to the Toyota Customer Care Corporate website. If you use it you will get a live customer care agent; No waiting or menu prompts. Toyota Customer Phone Number | Shortest Wait | Best Support | GetHuman.com I'll be checking in here periodically so we can exchange any progress achieved through this on-going process. Regards!

Thanks USMCASA - Everytime I would make a call via bluetooth, it would ring twice then the system would reboot. I've been accused of repeated butt-dialing! I took your advice and the issue seems to be gone.

Ok so my wifes been going back and forth with the dealership for about a month now. She has never had a problem with connection, just the re-boot. Completey random, connected to phone, not connected, during calls, parked, driving, you name it. When it started she had an iphone4s, now she has a galaxy s5. We are already on our 2nd system(which i just read wont help because its the software) but they just did an update 2 days ago and the number is 0101B1. They even tried telling her its the phone, then she told them it started when she had an iphone and they were speechless. They tell her to download the entune app, Well she does and goes in. Out of her phone, the service manager's, a salesman's, then a couple mechanic's not one worked properly. Mostly with pandora, it would cut off and when you turn the volume, it would come back on....weird, i know. So they pretty much told her they are very sorry and they arent gonna stop till they find a solution. Service guy even told her its a jbl amp and speakers but a panosonic radio. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have a buddy with a tundra without jbl and he hasnt had any problems.

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket system the will work with the steering wheel controls??

Mine is brand new (2 weeks old-LE) and it happens quite often. I get "freezes" on navigation (just stops, without me knowing it until I realize I miss turns etc) but also randomly reboots. I've removed my BT phone connection completely, but I can't find any pattern in why it happens.
Frustrating on a very expensive new car.

My wife's LE is less than a week old and suffers badly from random and frequent reboots. She does not utilize the Navigation, so I don't know if it is plagued with freezing as yours. She has a service appointment Tuesday to look into it. Whoever she spoke to on the phone from service said that they never heard of this problem! I hope that it is not a wasted visit.
