2014 Entune problems

T-SB-0006-14 Rev 2 (Revision Notice 7/30/2014)

First let me say this if you have this issue and you have not reported it to Toyota Care please do so get a case #. The representatives at Toyota Care are very helpful and they notify the technical team servicing your region.

Here is my update. I was also told that the 3.2 update was not ready for prime time by both Toyota Care and the Dealer. The Dealer has it and can use it as an attempt to fix the problem. So from my last post of late July where I have unpaired by phone from Entune until Monday, August 11 I had ZERO issues; but of course couldn't take advantage of any of the features of pairing your phone with the Entune System.

On Monday, August 11th my Limited 4 Runner was again at the dealership and they installed 0101B1. I paired my LG G2 phone before I left the dealership and on both Friday and Saturday I experienced the the system rebooting while just listening to a local radio station. I have notified my service manager and Toyota Care.

I have a scanned copy of the update but the forum won't let me upload it. =(

Stay tuned...

Well I experienced the reboot for the first time last Friday. About 2700 miles on the car.

Had the radio playing and navigation on and the system rebooted. It kept rebooting after about a minute or two. Did it about 5-6 times in a row. I tried pulling over and restarting the car hoping that would reset "something" lol.

Ended up at my destination finally because I kind of knew where it was anyways but wow that was annoying.

Going to give the dealer a call later today to see what's up.

add me to the list. The first time it happened was a month or two ago and I just ignored it. I'm at ~9k miles right now and 5 months.

On my last road trip out to go camping it reset 3 times over the course of 12 hours of driving. Just randomly driving with nothing really different. Was listening to music and charging two phones on my 12V charger. That's it. Two of these restarts were within 10 minutes of each other.

I guess I'll ask the dealership about it after i take it in for my 10k oil change.

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket system the will work with the steering wheel controls??[/QUOTE said:
I'm pretty sure the Kenwood/Garmin head units do. I had one in my FJ Cruiser, and it was a great unit. Thinking about swapping out the Entune unit that came with my 2014 TE with one. The Kenwood unit I had worked great with the steering wheel controls. Best thing about the Kenwood units is that you get a true Garmin Nav system with them!

My only concern is the backup camera. I love that setup (with the assist lines) on the 2014, and I wouldn't want to lose the complete functionality of that camera if I switched to a Kenwood unit. I had a backup camera on my FJ, but is was just plain....no assist lines to make backing into parking spots a breeze.

Ok so my wifes been going back and forth with the dealership for about a month now. She has never had a problem with connection, just the re-boot. Completey random, connected to phone, not connected, during calls, parked, driving, you name it. When it started she had an iphone4s, now she has a galaxy s5. We are already on our 2nd system(which i just read wont help because its the software) but they just did an update 2 days ago and the number is 0101B1. They even tried telling her its the phone, then she told them it started when she had an iphone and they were speechless. They tell her to download the entune app, Well she does and goes in. Out of her phone, the service manager's, a salesman's, then a couple mechanic's not one worked properly. Mostly with pandora, it would cut off and when you turn the volume, it would come back on....weird, i know. So they pretty much told her they are very sorry and they arent gonna stop till they find a solution. Service guy even told her its a jbl amp and speakers but a panosonic radio. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I have a buddy with a tundra without jbl and he hasnt had any problems.

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket system the will work with the steering wheel controls??

You can go to Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LED LCD TV, Cameras they have a good selection of gps head units.

Update - 3rd Service for Entune Reboot Issue

I just picked my 2014 4Runner Limited back-up for the 3rd service to address the Entune Reboot. The dealer opened a technical case with Toyota Engineering. The assigned Corporate Engineer ruled out a memory issue that was a problem in the earlier production models. He suggested that the dealer wipe the software clean on the vehicle unit as week as all customer data. Then reinstall the latest software version as a clean install (not overlaid as a software update). We also unpaired my phone from the vehicle and deleted Entune on my phone. We then reinstalled Entune and paired my phone to the vehicle. We were prompted through a series of updates on the Entune module and for access to share information between my phone the Entune module. We completed the process and the Entune Application Suite was reinstalled.

So when this is complete your Update History on the vehicle will be blank.

I'm guessing there is a way to wipe the Entune software clean yourself and reinstall it I just didn't research that.

I will report back with or without issues in a few weeks/months.

Best of luck to everyone!

Well my wife's hadnt shut off in a while and yesterday she connected her phone and it re-booted again. She has a galaxy 5 which is on the list of approved phones on toyotas website and the dealer still tried saying her phone wasnt compatible. I dont think its the phone itself but the software has a glitch. Either way its a shame you cant use the bluetooth feature.

Mine locked up yesterday in a way it never has before. Listening to XM radio, and the touch screen froze. Even the manual volume control knob did not respond. I had to push and hold the power button and reboot it and it was fine.

the biggest issue I have is the message transfer. if I have too many thread and each thread has too many messages, it either fails or anything with the message portion will not work until I either shut off the vehicle OR

I purge all my messages. this will solve 99% of the time why the entune app never lets texts come thru or even work.

been trying to run 10 max texts per thread, but I don't know what the cutoff is for the number of threads. I just did a complete purge today and the texts popped up in 2 secs, but then again I only had 2 thread with 2 texts each.

2014 Entune problem 2nd Service visit

Mine is brand new (2 weeks old-LE) and it happens quite often. I get "freezes" on navigation (just stops, without me knowing it until I realize I miss turns etc) but also randomly reboots. I've removed my BT phone connection completely, but I can't find any pattern in why it happens.
Frustrating on a very expensive new car.

Mine froze the first time while accepting delivery. We were so busy moving our stuff from trade-in to 4Runner that we saw the freeze-up and missed the re-boot. We thought it just un-froze on its on. That is until it happened again on the way home.
On my first visit to service, they down-loaded the upgrade and it helped a lot. It used to freeze and/or reboot 2 or more times a day. Now it happens maybe twice a week.
Service warned me it may take a while if they have to recreate the problem. That being said, I'm going in for my 2nd service visit tomorrow.

I bought mine on the 4th of July and just a couple of weeks ago I had it crash on my constantly...I took it into the dealership and the upgraded the software and so far so good.

Mine is two months old. It just started freezing and rebooting. Often. I have done an extensive stereo upgrade and spliced the speaker wires. I did that the first week I had the truck. Will the dealership hive me a hard time over my Entune problems because I cut some wires?

Possibly. Depends how obvious the splices and aftermarket stuff is.

If they remove the HU they will see the splices. No way around it.

Otherwise the car looks stock, unless you peek under the 2 front seats and see the amps, or look in the trunk and see the sub-box. Speaker upgrades are all in stock locations behind the panels.

We bought my wives 14 last mo and about a week after the Entune radio went completely black screen! Would not reboot just blank. What was strange is the back up cam still came on but nothing else. Took it to the dealer and they had to order a new one. Now after a month it has finally come in. So my wife was without a radio in a new truck for a mo.

I have had the entune in my 14 Tundra reboot many times too. I am not impressed with this set up!
