2014 Entune problems

radio does random reboot when its raining

hello T4R fam, i drive a 2016 t4r TRD and its raining cats and dogs right now here in san francisco! durring my 30 minute commute from work, my radio randomly rebooted itself 3-5 times and its super annoying!

software is up to date.

i dont want to go into the dealership just for them to say we will just update your software.

anyone know whats going on?! i dont think having the dealership replacing a headunit will help either!!

I posted in the other reboot thread that mine did it 05Dec2016 more than five times. It had never done it before. It was raining that day.

Hmmmmmmmm

Not sure if this matters to anyone, but I noticed in my 2016 TE, the reboot started when I enabled Phone Status in the Systems Settings. All this does is produce a status line telling you which phone connected, which isn't really all that impressive. Once I turned this back off, it has since stopped rebooting.

100% failure and restart of the head unit under the following conditions: on bluetooth phone call passing "The Dominion" on I-10 West of San Antonio. This does not happen unless I am utilizing the bluetooth connection between my phone and the head unit (HU).

First the connection between the HU and the phone will suddenly disconnect. During this time, the phone call is still on, but only on the phone - which is illegal in San Antonio. Multiple tries under different scenarios all result in the same ending: the HU restarts or restarts multiple times.

I am fairly determined that the problem is an improperly handle exception within the bluetooth connection part of the HU software. My solution... nothing. I am out of warranty at over 60,000 miles, and I don't want to sink more money into this HU when I really want to upgrade it someday.

Unless some one can figure out how we can fix this issue without throwing money at it, I am just going to deal with it until I can upgrade.

I just got off the phone with Toyota Customer Support. I logged an incident with them a few days ago and they did get back to me. My case manager is going to research the issue and get back to me.

The problem, of course, is that this is an intermittent problem dependent on the weather. If no one reports it, Toyota won't put much effort into research the issues.

For that reason, I'd ask that you and anyone else who is having this problem to contact Toyota and log a case with them.

You can log a case 2 ways:

1) Toyota FAQs | Send Questions to Toyota Customer Service

2) call (800) 331-4331

Given that you are out of warranty, I'm not sure what they will do. But it would seem like getting as many people as possible to log this issue has the best chance of them actually researching, finding the problem and issuing a service bulletin.

Just tried to log a question, for some reason it wont let me post because the State pull down does not work, anyone else having this issue?

I thought about it, but I don't want to be directed to a dealership because I am not putting any more money into this system.

I have a 2014 SR5 & iphone 5s; mine connects sometimes & sometimes it connects directly into saying I'm making a phone call, which is not the case. I have to turn BT off on phone, turn engine off, turn BT back on, then restart engine. Most of the time this works to reconnect. I have noticed I need to have BT on, on phone, before starting engine. Rarely can I turn BT on after engine is already started & connect without it going straight into the phone call mode. Haven't had any reboot issues.

Hi Morganl305,

First thing that I always do (before contacting the dealership) is to pull the RAD 20A fuse (Main-fusebox under the hood) which boots the hard-drive/processor; but only after what seems like an eternal four hour wait. When it's rebooting in a continuum pattern on it's own, what it's really doing is attempting to reorganize and load it's own file system in the proper order (much like your windows device may do at times... ) But, the 'processor/hard-drive' gets substantially overloaded with temporary/corrupted/incomplete files and Innumerable historical logs, that are there to help with "self-diagnostics", trouble-shooting at a later time that these records would be in a much more useful state. This is where a master RESET is the perfect solution. It's kinda like turning your phone completely off an then back on for apparently on reason; this process forces the device's parameters to go back to it's default factory settings and protocol operation. Once that's done it will operate as it did when it left the showroom floor; provided that the O.S. vers. was working at all when the vehicle was assembled! 'Best to you ALL',

~rig~!

Had the same thing described by many others in above thread happen to me on Dec 3. I just called that number and they said it is a firmware update that is required to address said issue.

To determine if your unit is in need of update, go into Apps-->Setup-->General-->Software Update-->Update

Look at the top item 'Audio': If you see anything that doesn't end in D4 or 54 you are in need of the firmware update. He said this has to be done at a dealership via USB.

Said this is a known issue and is addressed by firmware update.

Mine is back at the dealer today from constant re-boots and freeze ups. We will see if this firmware update fixes the issue, I hope so.

Hey guys,

I downloaded the latest update from the Toyota download portal, put it on a usb stick plugged it in and the system upgraded. Once it said shut down the vehicle, the radio will no longer turn on... the back up camera works but no radio!

Any advice?

Update: I used the link in this thread to download the latest firmware using the USB stick method to update the radio, left the car off for a few hours and the radio still did not work. I pulled the RAD 20a fuse for an hour. Plugged it back in and all is back to normal along with the updated firmware. Hopefully this helps someone else!

I was going to suggest a hard reboot haha. Glad you got it sorted out and that the update didn’t brick the HU.

Yes, I had a minor heart attack when I updated with out the Wife knowing and I was prepping for not having a "Happy Life" today when she found out the radio didn't work! Needless to say, the updates appear to always be a little finicky from what I am reading on line and the RAD 20a fuse is the 90% cure for most issues!

I have a 2015 Trail.
For a few years I had the bluetooth audio freeze issue.
Somehow it got sorted out last year.
I think the dealer did a software update.
Not sure what the difference is between the standard updates that come through the app, or the dealer ones or the ones people do on a USB stick.
I haven't had that audio freeze issue in a long time.
But yesterday I could not get the saved destinations to come up on the Entune.

It really seems like a shabby product.
You would think that the company that sells more cars than anyone on the planet would have some decent engineers and would actually dedicate some time to making sure the system works.
It is a very sparse system as it is, and apps seem to be dropping out continuously.
I love Toyota engineering and reliability with regards to the drivetrain.
But some needed effort on the details would be nice.
This Entune is outdated by about 10-15 years, can't it at least work?

Correction:
I found out why the Entune apps weren’t working with my phone’s data.
I have an iPod Touch plugged into the USB port as my music device.
Apparently Entune Apps don’t work with a phone’s data via Bluetooth when there is an Apple device plugged into the USB.
After almost 5 years I didn’t know that.
The phone, messaging and Bluetooth audio work via my phone via Bluetooth, even with the iPod plugged into the USB.
Seems odd.
So no issues after all.
