2014 TE Prem. Availability and Dealer Willingness to locate

Hello all. New to the forum. I am currently achieving a lifelong dream of owning a 4runner. This forum has been a great source of information in helping me make an informed decision. I have narrowed it down to a 2014 Black TE Premium. I have talked with 2 dealers in my area and each convey that these are hard to come by. The first dealer located 2 that they may be able to get, and the 2nd dealer located one that he said was still sitting in New York harbor.
I began negotiations with the first dealer and he would not budge on the MSRP, and low balled my trade in by $2500. I walked on the negotiations, and have not heard from them in a week. I know the TE Premium is the least produced as far as quantity goes, but are these in such scarcity that a salesman can actually not care if they lose a customer?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Keep hunting! I spoke with 6 dealerships before I was able find exactly what I wanted. Be realistic with your trade. Don't expect NADA trade in value if you need tires, windshield, dents and dings.

If you want it you have to be willing to pay for it. There is someone right behind you that wii. Near as I canb figure they only produce about 200 a month for the entire US.

I went to 4 or 5 dealers before I found one that was willing to do an order. I was able to pick exactly what I wanted from the small list of options for a 2013 TE, no restrictions. Maybe it's different in So.Calif. with ordering choices and regions.

Don't settle for what some dealer wants to sell you, get what you want. Discount was ok, not great. I was able to get 5.6% off MSRP.

I worked with their internet sales rep, not the pushy floor pirates that jump you onthe way in.

black TEp current usa inventory is only 31 units. all TEp across the board is only 164 units across the usa.

historically TEp are rare, just be glad your not going for a blue or red, then you can cut the above number in 1/2.

I was doing inventory checks in the 2014 thread, from about December to end of January. I stopped once 2013 units dropped below 500 for those looking for 2013 deals.

Crazy lucky here I guess. My dealer said let's just order what u want (since the trail prem is a rare bird) and it'll take about 8 weeks to get here. 4 weeks in he called to tell me there was one identical to my order coming into port that was an unallocated unit and he could get it. Of course I said yea and now I should be driving it this week. Special order unit was negotiated well under msrp. Buying this quicker unit for same price. Toyota dealer in Morgan City, LA fyi. It does help that a friend of mine is the GM of the dealership. But I think they'd do similar for any customer.

I went to my local dealer about a month ago with full knowledge that they didn't have the one I wanted on the lot. I wanted a Gray Trail Premium. They had a white one that I test drove, then the sales manager said he would see if there were any trucks with the exact configuration I wanted in the region. There were only 2 in the Southern California region, one of which was already spoken for. The other was at a dealer 100 miles away, and that dealer was willing to trade their gray one for the white one.

My dealer was certainly willing to negotiate, and I ended up getting a decent deal and paying just a hair over invoice. If I had chosen the white one on the lot, I could have gotten the costco deal ($600 under invoice), but I really wanted the gray, and I was very appreciative that the dealer was able to track down the exact model, and jump through the hoops to get it.

It was a fairly simple and painless negotiation because I knew what the costco price was, I was paying cash, and I wasn't doing a trade-in. This was the second Toyota we bought from that dealer in as many months, so maybe that helped.

I didn't really have a lot of leverage going into the negotiation since trail premiums are a bit harder to find, and Toyota doesn't give any nationwide incentives on them (0% financing, big rebates, etc), but the dealer was good to me. It sounds like you need to keep looking around until you find a dealer as reasonable as mine was.

At least my dealer was honest "Only 2 TE Premiums within 500 miles & we'd end up having to screw you on the price to get one here & you wouldn't be getting all the options you want" lol In reality the only things I would like over the TE I'm getting would be full SofTex & heated seats. Good luck on your quest, Premiums seem to be a pain to get, especially depending on location.

*edit* Hell, I wasn't paying attention to the fact you live right up the road (Parkersburg here)! Superior won't be getting one anytime in the foreseeable future, never went up to C&C in Marietta. I do know Superior has a red TE (don't know if it's base or premium) non-KDSS coming in about a month. Good luck neighbor!

I am running into the same issues you are in looking for 2014 TEp. I have been contacting dealer after dealer trying to track what i want down...more importantly, i don't want to get ripped off just because they are more rare than the others.

Anyway, are you a member of Costco? They have an auto buying program that i am using to get good pricing on TE premiums. I believe somebody else on here recommended them as well. If you're not a member, it's only $50 to join. May be worth it. I "hear" that people are getting invoice (or below) pricing on the TE when using the Costco auto program. I hope i do too!!

my dealer put "preference" on one, they said 8-12 weeks. i was told next unallocated one that comes off the assembly line is mine. we will see. black on black trail prem with kdss. paid $500 over invoice and got top of kbb trade in on my car.

the problem with that number is toyota shows totals for on lot and projected inbounds.

the numbers i gave are closer to actual inventory numbers

if you want to get really technical, i could fine tune that number to hard inventory, but that takes time/research, which i only do for myself

Yeah, i'm in Kentucky and am looking for the Barcelona Red color trail premium. They keep telling me its so rare but i think i'm about to get lucky.

And like one poster said....expand the search ...that seems to help.

i only went out 500 miles from from your sig location. outside of 500 miles tends to be a pita logistic wise to deal and drive back.

8 hour drive is my limit to go get a vehicle.
